Re: Junior Galette done for the year (again)
Between Kerrigan and Smith(if he's the player we think he is)our pass rush might still be decent but man, with Galette in there it could've been killer. This just plain sucks
Is it time to move on? He's had a lot of injuries recently and he'll be 29 next season.. |

Re: Junior Galette done for the year (again)
Well, not what I wanted to hear....crap, I thought he was all the way back too.
With P Smith on the rise, this was really a low-risk, high reward situation. We shall survive. On the bright side, there are 3 pages of threads on Galette and not one person said "Pootie Tang" |

Re: Junior Galette done for the year (again)
Now is there any room for Trent Murphy back as OLB? We have little left after Smith and Kerrigan.

Re: Junior Galette done for the year (again)
I hate to say this, but I was never expecting Galette to play this year in the first place. No, I am not psychic, I just had this feeling that he was not going to work out. I thought Preston Smith greatly improved as the season went on this past year, and I have no problems with continuing to develop him as a linebacker. I think the 'skins will be more than OK. Sure, if Galette were to have played and been everything we thought he had the potential of being, that would have been fantastic. But, I'm not too upset. Don't get me wrong, I'm upset for Junior Galette. The man has worked hard to try to get back in there and it's a shame he's suffered another serious injury like this. I really hate it for him, but the sky isn't falling by any stretch.

Re: Junior Galette done for the year (again)
I don't think so...he has put on the weight and began the transition. It would be asinine to change up a strategy based solely on JG...a player who has actually never played for us...I don't feel like we are losing a starter.

Re: Junior Galette done for the year (again)
For me this is depressing. The only thing I'll cling to are the media reports that Preston looked amazing in mini camp. Several said he looked like the best player on the field, including Keim who I really respect as a detailed football guy.
But still, there's not much rotation now. You need Kerrigan and Smith to be on the field all damn game. You wonder if they'll have gas in the tank in the 4th quarter when it's really time to get after the QB. We can't take another injury at OLB.

Re: Junior Galette done for the year (again)
Pass rush isn't about having your two best edge rushers on the field, it's about having as many as you can possibly get on the field at the same time for obvious passing downs.
You wanted Kerrigan, Galette, and Preston all out there at the same time for nickel. That would be hard to handle. This just sucks because McCloughan watched the Packers playoff game and knew we needed to upgrade the rush. Galette was going to be the difference between the lineup we fielded in that game and what we rolled out in Week 1 this year. Now we're in the same boat. We need another.

Yup. Galette was key. It doesn't matter if he never started. Our D was lousy. Lol. He would have made a huge difference. |

Junior Galette done for the year (again)
Is our D going to be improved even without him? Yeah probably.
Would our D be improved with him? DEFINITELY. There is no sugar coating his injury. |

Re: Junior Galette done for the year (again)
While JG ability will be missed, Im gonna wait and see how Barry and our guys show in preseason. Paea, Reyes, and Cravans may emerge to fill a pass rush void or maybe Houton Bates or newbie can flash with more reps.
If this happened within a week of the season, I think it would be devastating because sub packages, scheme, rotations, etc would be set with the expectation of JG on the field. We have time to plan and adjust. Maybe McC doesn't like what he sees and goes and gets somebody...certainly have time to make that decision.

Re: Junior Galette done for the year (again)
Cravens doesn't make sense as a pass rusher. His job is hybrid LB/safety. He'll be asked to cover mostly in the box, and run support when the play goes that way.
But you're right Chico this does give McC a chance to react. I'm just not holding my breath about getting much from Reyes or Paea. Definitely not in the playoffs.
