Clock Management or lack thereof
2:00 to go,we come out of the 2 minute warning Time Out, Frost to punt.
Question: Why couldn't we have taken a 'Delay of Game' penalty on the punt, waited for the clock to tick off 25 seconds (I think, for a Time Out after the 2Minute Warning) and then an additional 40 seconds off for one of our remaining Time Out's? That would have left considerably less time for the Bucs to move down, and hopefully Frost would have managed a little better a punt. :frusty: |

The clock doesn't start until the snap.

Re: Clock Management or lack thereof
Damn it..........I knew there had to be a reason, but I was so agitated (to put it mildly) that I wasn't thinking straight.
Thanks for the info Matt. |

Re: Clock Management or lack thereof
Actually the clock might not start until the return, not positive.

Re: Clock Management or lack thereof
56fanatic bravo for you!good teams run for two yards and the first down even when everyone in the stadium knows that the skins are going to run.99% of the time the opposition will even know the play we are going to use.ive been a skins fan since 1969 and winning football hasnt changed much.remember 4th and one in the super bowl against the dolphins, everyone in the free world knew riggins was getting the ball, still didnt matter.somewhere along the way our offensive line has to figure this out and step up on these kinds of plays.

Re: Clock Management or lack thereof
Still ... 3 straight plays right up the middle. Remember the earlier play where Portis went in the middle - saw the crowd, bounced off and went outside for the TD. On 3rd and 2, we could have ran a bootleg, an outside run, pitch, or short pass to someone - yet 3 straight runs to the middle. That was the game itself.
Yes I know: defense is to largely blame (See Mike Wise's column in today's Wash Post). I dearly miss Antonio Pierce but - could have won game with a simple play on 3rd and 2. |

Re: Clock Management or lack thereof
Good teams don't need to get cute on 3rd and 2, and yes this is the way Gibbs will approach these situations 99% of the time and he's won a lot of games this way, so get used to it is what I'm saying.
With the way we were running all day against the #1 ranked D, calling running plays when you need to run out the clock isn't exactly a crazy idea. |

Re: Clock Management or lack thereof
I think it would have been gutsy if Gruden had gone for two before the penalties putting Tampa at the one yard line.
Going for two when you're just one yard away...my guess is most coaches would do that. Except maybe Marty

Anyway, I know nobody knows the team as well as Gibbs especially a bunch of Monday morning QBs like us. |
