Re: Multiple sources: Washington is signing WR Stefon Diggs
Please don't compare a traditional WR like Diggs to Deebo.
Deebo right now is a situational WR/RB/kickoff returner. Almost everyone agrees he is non-typical, more of a gadget guy who is good with the ball in his hands. Diggs can legitimately play X, Y, Z 1. Diggs legitimately can threaten coverage away from Terry 2. Diggs can replace Terry if injured Even if they yards could be replaced by others, they CANNOT do the above two points. If you think anyone on this team can effectively step in if Terry goes down, just look at last two years, from 12-5 to 5-12. Even Deebo couldn't do this, although he did the best he could. Lots of our "others" have a track record over the last 2 years, either averaging 1 catch a game, or not trusted to even hit the field. So if you think we were "good" as is, you are smoking something good. The NFL has decided Diggs is far better than Deebo 12M vs 7M. Math says the league says Diggs is 71% more valuable than Deebo. They are RADICALLY different players, almost like they play a completely different position. Not apples and oranges. We still need a deep theat to emerge, I would Lane to take that from Dyami Brown to save a roster spot. They both can fly and drop passes, so, yeah.

He's a little temperamental but so are a lot of wr's. You can't have all choir boys on your team. He still works hard and keeps himself in great shape. Our wr's depth is way better than last year. |

I guess what I was trying to say is I'm just 50/50. We have tried these types of signings and had so so results.
But I'm glad he's here. He makes the room better. He makes the team better IF he can sustain his level of play of last year. Plus there is no draft pick compensation. |

I still prefer signing a probowler coming off 1000 yards at 32 vs a bunch of potential 1 catch a game guys as your insurance plan to Terry

Some people just need a booster shot of positivity. It's camp season, if you can't be positive now, when can you be.

Re: Multiple sources: Washington is signing WR Stefon Diggs
I think with Deebo it's not a matter of comparing apples and oranges, it's oranges and tangerines. Deebo isn't a significant stretch the field type. He's a slot, gadget and return man. He's an excellent athlete and would appear to be a team player, so yes, I'd like to have seen him back, but only if he had a role to play and was worth the cost. He maybe has but isn't worth it, when we have (potential) slot and return guys on the roster. We needed a stretch the field guy to split receptions with Scary, and we had none. That's why Aiyuk was at least in the early conversations. Deebo is great but not what we needed, Aiyuk is potentially great but a nutcase. We know what we should be getting with Diggs and at least for now there's nothing to worry about off field. It's a one year deal. If Williams blossoms, it gives us options next year. Right now we have a legit #1 and #2, at least the potential for good if not great #3-5 and a very good TE. I'm glad he's here and looking forward to what can happen (cross fingers everyone stays healthy).
Aiyuk doesn't need a team, he needs therapy. |
