Re: How Long For Brunell?

I am in no way on the Brunell sucks bandwagon but if I see him scramble three steps and throw the ball away without a defender within 6 yards of him again I might start getting on. At least twice last night he chucked the ball four or five steps too early. You gotta give your WRs time to break free. Especially on third down. He seemed a little to content to throw it away last night.

Yeah because Brady and Manning are the only QBs in the game that throw the ball well. Com'on Brunell is fully capable of a 3800-4000 yard season giving a little more confidence in his WRs and some decent protection. We don't have 3 of the fastest and most agile WRs in the league to be a ground and pound team. That's just ridiculous. I am glad you have said it "all off season" but lots of people say things and lots of them are not right.

Re: How Long For Brunell?

Dont start with this Brunell has to go crap. the guy was pressured a ton, especially when they went 3 and 4 wide. He did the smart thing, moving out of the pocket to buy a couple of seconds and did the only thing he could, throw it away. Unfortunately, our defense was not as good as it has been the last couple of years. and our special teams suck. Frost has got to go. 30 something avg for an NFL punter, that is a joke. and kicking off is a joke too. teams catching the ball on the 15 or 20 and starting on the 35 to 40. we automatically lost field position after scoring the go ahead TD.

Re: How Long For Brunell?

I would have liked to see Brunell half as pumped up in the fourth quarter as Brad Johnson. Johnson wanted the game more than Brunell, and the Vikings pulled it out.

Frost averaged 43 for the night.

Not sure where you're getting 30. Maybe that was his net, but that's gotta fall on the poor coverage, not him. Outside of his first punt of the night he was fine.

Our special teams play stinks. coverage wise, frost can not punt consistently. He had one good punt of like 50 yards which helped his average. he cant kick off, he cant get the ball deep on a consistant basis. we lose field position that way. we score a TD, then on the next kickoff they catch it on the 20 or 25 - they CATCH it on the 20 or 25. Hall is done. thats not even worth discussing. the coaching staff has to take some of the blame for not bringing in some people during the offseason to compete with these two chumps.

Re: How Long For Brunell?

Let's hope Mark Brunell was paying close attention to how his older counterpart played last night. Brad Johnson made things happen when the pocket collapsed.

Brunell did fine... we need to run the ball better.

Re: How Long For Brunell?

We lost last night because Brad Johnson completed just about everything on 3rd down. Our Defense could not get a stop when we needed it and Sean Taylor's untimely penalties really hurt. Brunell did not have a great night statistically, but what really hurt was 3 FGs and not 3TDs in the RedZone.

That's news to me.

We barely collapsed the pocket on him. He was getting rid of the ball before anyone could even get near him most times.

When things did break down he threw it away.

How about 0 touchdowns and 4 of 13 on third down. Being at the game gave me an entirely different view of Brunells' play. He stares down the first read, and if that receiver is covered, he throws it away. He stares down receivers so much, that I cannot believe he doesn't throw more picks. Judging from his 163 yard performance last night, he is not the man to lead Saunders' "wide open" offense. That being said, it'll take a broken leg before Gibbs pulls him.

Bottom line is Johnson made plays while Brunell threw away the ball before looking for a second or third receiver. We need a QB who's not afraid to make a play and win the game. This "he's a great manager of the game" is overrated.

Re: How Long For Brunell?

If we got rid of all the player that everyone hates on after a loss we would only have Moss left on O and Taylor on D. Opps Taylor would be gone this week too. So the D would have all rookies.

This argument is really stale.

It's year 3 with Brunell, get over it.

He helped get us to the playoffs last year and he's our best shot this year.
Actually, we were losing games till we started feeding the ball hardcore to Portis for the last 5 games of the season. Then when Portis got knicked up and we had to throw more we had two horrible offensive performances in the playoffs.

Just watching Brunell made me sick and he got some deserved boo's last night. 1st down, 2nd down -- fine, make the safe safe play. On 3rd down, use as much time as you can to TRY to get it. It's about time our offense bails our DEFENSE out for once.
