Re: Bigger disappointment?

To many new guys on both sides of the ball. Players have to get aquainted with each other before anyone will start making make plays. That's why Ryan Clark was (and Demetric Evans is) so valuable to us. In the long term, Archuleta may have better stats than Clark but, how many games do we have to lose before everyone is on the same page? It could be too late.

That is the mark of championship team. We did not. I firmly believe we have a more talented team, staff, etc. We did not play like it, and if one player injured, or a couple of penalties gone the wrong way=loss........................be a long season. As somebody stated earlier, we got dominated. Our killer O-line, D-line, etc got bitched.........regularly. To many people say, we are just trying to buy a SB with overpriced free agents. last night, we proved them right. I Felt like I was watching Houston. maybe it will light a fire in their bellies for the Cowboys. If not..........I don't want to think about it-Damn disappointing
Let's not get too down. We can lose a conference game at home. Once Gibbs get it goin'...ain't no stopping us.

Re: Bigger disappointment?

Why couldnt we get a call when our guy got drillllllled from behind after a ball sailed way over his head.....Taylor got that flag when he hit a receiver still trying to make a play on the ball!!! and that was not helmet first he deffinately hit him with his shoulder!! Im not making any excuses but those two plays, the one call and the one blown call, screwed us!

Re: Bigger disappointment?

I don't think anyone would say the offense looked like the Chiefs of the past few years, but they did put up some points. I thought the defense was going to be able to keep the Vikes from moving the ball, but, obviously, that wasn't the case. I wonder if the D was a little shell-shocked on that opening drive?

I honestly think that Springs' absence meant the difference in the game. I think Springs is one of the most important players to the defense, second only to Griffin.

Re: Bigger disappointment?

If we don't have Springs next week we are gonna get killed. GW won't leave Rogers, Rumph, or Wright on an island against TO or Glenn, therefore we won't have any pressure and we all know how Bledsoe does without pressure. I love the skins to death but if they perform like they did last night and all of preseason this game will be over by halftime.

Re: Bigger disappointment?

Neither side of the ball was very effective but I think the defense was the greater disappointment. Inability to cover receivers, penalties, third down conversions, and just overall lack of effort were all contributing factors. Players point to mistakes, but it's not a mistake when you can't cover anybody. If we see that same kind of coverage against Owens, Glenn, and Whitten on Sunday night then a flight to Dallas is useless. You can't go "back to the drawing board" and learn how to cover receivers, and tackle opposing ball carriers. We must do a better job with the basics.

Re: Bigger disappointment?

That was a pathetic display of defense and special teams. Surprisingly, the offensive was more effective than expected but the defense could not stop the Vikings on third down or put pressure on Brad Johnson. If they do not put pressure on Drew Bledsoe, the Cowboys will eat them alive. The two bright spots was the kickoff and punt return teams but the coverage was horrible and needs to be addressed immediately. The offense moved well, it just needs to convert those drives into more touchdowns. I'm surprised they didn't use T.J. Duckett in goalline situations.

I'm not so sure the defense was so piss poor and the offense was that good. I think they both did some good things and they both did some bad things.

Third down conversions were bad on both sides of the ball. The defense allowed the Vikings to convert 52% of 3rd downs. Our offense, however, converted just 30% of third downs.

Both sides did okay with regard to rushing. The offense averaged 4.1 yards per carry. The defense allowed just 2.5 yards per carry and only 86 total rushing yards.

Both sides were sub-par in the passing game. The defense allowed 223 yards and the offense only put up 163 yards.

The stats are pretty even on both sides. My eyes told me that both sides did okay; a decent job, but not enough to get it done.

Granted, I would have expected the defense to look better, but objectively speaking it did just as well as the offense in my mind.

our defense did lack of effort and very over confident

We saw it last year when Griffin went down. The run D was awful.

Yes, one guy can make that much of a difference. He's that important.

Springs and Griffin are the two guys that hold this entire D together.
