GM mistakes Why didn't we keep them
A lot of former skins have done well on other teams. Who should we have kept? Stephen Davis, Trent Green, Bryan Johnson, N. Kalu, Ryan Clark, Fred Smoot, Lavar Arrington just to name a few.

Re: GM mistakes Why didn't we keep them
Trent Green would have solved our QB position for the past 8 years, Ryan Clark, Pierce and Smoot should still be here. The rest I was fine with letting go.

Simple...the redskins under Snyder have always coveted thy neighbors goods.

already had this thread about 80 times. I think you mean brad johnson not bryan johnson... green probably wouldn't have stayed anyways.
pierce and clark were the big mistakes since they were both leaders and knew the system. for the money, letting smoot wasn't really that big a deal. |

It may have been possible that Trent Green would have stayed had the team not been in transition at the time of his departure. He left the same year Snyder bought the team, and at the time stated he was unsure of the direction the team was going, and was basically loking for stability. |

Trent Green - Big loss in hindsight. Left prior to Snyder buying the team. Brad Johnson - Best QB of Snyder's regime. The Danny loved Jeff George, so Brad had to go. Another bad loss. N. Kalu - A role player at best. Ryan Clark - Huge loss from a chemistry standpoint, and he could've been retained on the cheap. Smoot - If we were willing to give Archuleta huge money, why not Smoot? Lavar - A shell of his former self. Snyder's biggest mistake was giving Lavar "Ray Lewis money" before Gibbs arrived. Champ Bailey should've been the one to get a huge deal. Pierce - You forgot to mention him. Gibbs called him a core Redskin at the end of his first season at MLB. If you want to win, you have to retain a player like that, and he WAS NOT asking for "Ray Lewis Money". Bottom line - until this team starts stockpiling cheaper depth thru the draft, retaining our own talented players up for contract will be difficult at best. My biggest disappointment of Gibbs's return has been his feeding of The Danny's delusions thru even more splashy signings. We are the champions of March, and the butt of jokes in October. |
