Joe Gibbs Website
Don't know if any of you saw this article in the Washington Times, but it's a really inspiring article about Joe Gibbs entitled, "A Window into Gibbs Soul." A window into Gibbs' soul - Sports - The Washington Times, America's Newspaper Coach Gibbs really shows that life is more important than just football.

I'm not a religious person at all, but I don't mind listening to him, he offers a lot of quality life lessons.

Re: Joe Gibbs Website
I, for one, was disturbed by that article. Not because of the display of faith, but because this is a man who seems like a shadow of his former self. See below:
"And so do I feel weak right now? You bet your life. From a football standpoint, I feel absolutely weak and inept. But as I've kind of struggled through this season, I want to have steadfast confidence in Christ, knowing that if I persevere, OK, I'm going to be strong in Him ... no matter how weak I feel." These are not the words of a winner. Being humble is good, but this humble? |

Re: Joe Gibbs Website
I am not religious either but there is something about Gibbs's golly-jee honesty that is reassuring. He's a humble dude, and I think he can turn things around.

Re: Joe Gibbs Website
Oh yes they are. Gibbs has always been like this. The only difference now is that he is allowing the public to see this aspect of who he is. As a younger man he bristled at the idea of being viewed as pushy about his faith. He hates the idea that people thought he favored religous players. (See the following: WashingtonPost.com: Gibbs Now Open About Lows in His Life ) The internet allows him to speak on these topics to those who are interested and those that aren't will likely never see it.

Re: Joe Gibbs Website
Coach Gibbs is man who is at peace with himself and where he is in life, and I think that is a great quality to have when coaching a bunch of young men who need direction (except for Ray Brown last year). It's reassuring to have such a leader, and I have no doubts that this team will be back on the playoff track next season, hopefully they'll continue their efforts to finish this season strong tomorrow.

Re: Joe Gibbs Website
With the exception of maybe last year, being back with the Redskins has been a true test for his strength and resolve. He has had to overcome a great deal of adversity, and to a lesser degree, humilitation, for the way things have gone with the team. He takes sole responsibility for his failures, and praises others for his success. I think he is also sensitive about many of the derogatory things that have been said about him since his return. He abides in his faith because that's where he finds his greatest consolation. His first experience here never revealed quite as much negative publicity, what he's experiencing now obviously requires an adjustment.

Re: Joe Gibbs Website
I don't really care what gives you the strength to continue and blah so long as you win. You can pray to Micky Mouse for all I care, just make the Redskins respectable.

Re: Joe Gibbs Website
The Redskins are as respectable now as they have been in years. This season's been tough, but we know the man in charge has the ability to win unlike coaches who came after the Gibbs I era (maybe Shottenheimer excluded, who wasn't really given a fair deal).

Re: Joe Gibbs Website
Are you implying that you don't pray to Mickey Mouse? You heathen! Consider yourself smoten by the powers of EPCOT!
