Potential Skins/Texans trade

(From Pasquarelli's Tip Sheet)
Houston owns the eighth overall choice in the first round of the draft and NFL sources tell ESPN.com that the Texans have been talking to teams higher in the order about moving up in the round, if necessary, to snag Quinn. Specifically, the Texans feel they might have to leap-frog the Minnesota Vikings, who own the No. 7 pick and who also will be tempted to grab Quinn as their quarterback of the future.

The Texans have been doing a lot of talking with Washington, currently at the No. 6 slot, about a deal. That makes sense because Redskins coach Joe Gibbs, who finally seems convinced that you can't buy a Super Bowl with free agents and actually have to invest in some draft picks once in a while, wants to slide down out of the No. 6 slot and amass extra choices.

Some in the league feel the Texans and Redskins already have an arrangement in place for such a deal, provided, of course, Quinn is still on the board at the sixth slot.

Thoughts?

I sure hope we can trade down for more picks.Only having 1 pick on the first day is pretty rough.

Re: Potential Skins/Texans trade

I think the potential lynchpin that could unscrew this deal would be Brady Quinn going in the top three. If he is there when we pick, this would be a GREAT deal for both teams. The Texans get a true, bona fide franchise QB, and we get an extra pick plus the player we would select at 6 anyway.

I would NOT make this deal before we are on the clock though. If we do this premature to that and Quinn ends up being gone, the Texans could snatch one of the guys that we really want.

I hope that is the case, we can get more picks and we would basically lose nothing if we trade with Houston cuz we still can draft a good DE..

If we could still get the best D-lineman in the draft and come away with an extra 3rd rounder or so I would be extatic

This could work out great.

They have the 8th overall, 39th(2nd round) and 73 rd (3rd round) overall picks.

Actually I like this scenerio better than the Bly deal. And unless the Texans threw the sink at us before draft day, I think we don't play our hand until we're on the clock.

Even if it's totally bogus, this gives some competition for our spot to the Broncos, so both teams will have to up their offer.
we need to sit tight for now unless one of them offers a Herschell Walker/R. williams type deal.

If we could work out getting three picks for 1, that's a heck of a bargain. A, 1st pick #8, 2nd pick 39th, and 73rd in the third for our number 6 in the first round? That's a no brainer.
This could be just what the DR. ordered. Hope this works, we need the picks!

I am not sure we'll get three picks so they can move up two spots...but I could be wrong, it just sounds like a lot

I really doubt we'd get three picks that high though. Its different with Denver because according to the "point scale", our first round pick is worth about 3 to 4 times as much as theirs if not more, so thats why they need to give those 2nd/3rd round picks too. I wouldnt mind doing it for the Texans 1st and 3rd round picks, then maybe trading down again and picking up somthing else.

I wouldn't get too worked up about this -- it all seems to fall on whether Brady Quinn makes to #6.

He won't last that long.

Not sure what the Texans are thinking. Carr hasn't played that bad. It's not like Brady Quinn can come in as a rookie and do any better right away. He's going to need time. I guess the Texans think that they have a top defense of a great o-line. Isn't this the team that drafted M. Wiliams?

Quinn would probably sit behind Carr for a year, but if you think our offense was conservative under Brunell, the Houston offense under Carr would have put you to sleep. On top of that, Carr had more INTs than TDs, and Brunell had double the TDs of his INTs, so Carr wasn't even that good at the conservative offense.

Quinn could play alright as a rookie, but I agree that if the Texans want to improve their middle ranked passing game on last year, their best chance is w/ Carr.

Carr's future beyond this year is not as a starter though.
