with no WRs to speak of brady was still putting up decent numbers. they just got two starters which are both HUGE upgrades, and a great blocking TE in brady (to go with receiving TE ben watson).

on defense they just got another super smart/versatile LB in AD, they still have two draft picks in the first round, and no one's really left the team.
On paper, it seems like that, but so did we last year & in 2000.
No one left aside from Graham this year, but last year a few did. They'll likely make some cuts of note post 6/1 or during camp, they're gonna have to make some room for their fa's & draft picks. I think this could be more of a transitional year for them. Can Bellicheck keep them on track? It'll be harder than it appears now, that's just a hunch as I said, I know they've won in the past when it sure seemed the odds were against them.

The division is still fairly weak, good we get them this year.

An upgrade for the Pats, because their WR corps was a WR corpse.
The Eagles had NO running game or at least failed to use it to keep defenses honest. New Orleans had no QB when Stallworth was there. BOTH Stallworth and the Pats will do much better this year with each other. Great signing.

The Pats have done a great job with player aquisition this offseason. The LB they signed from Ravens - Adalius Thomos is poised to have an impact season playing next to Richard Seymour, Mike Vrabel, Rosevelt Colvin, Teddy Bruschi..etc. They are going have the deepest front seven in the NFL with LSU DE Marquise Hill 6' 7" 300 pound will be 5th string DE behind Semour, Ty Warren, Jarvis Green and Mike Wright.
They planned well because they can now spend their entire draft on their one remaining weakness CB. With two first round draft picks and the draft being deep in DB they have done their homework.

Pretty good WR, but not worth the money the Pats paid him!

They are definitely a team to envy. However, the Colts are the favorite. No question.

they don't have to make cuts, they're under the cap. and unlike the skins of 2000 or 2006, they have tom brady.

Re: Stallworth to the Pats!

Isn't Donte in rehab right now?

Great place to scout free agents.

They may not have to make cuts from a cap standpoint, but from a roster standpoint they've got to make some room for their new acquisitions. Maybe it will only be depth guys, but they do have some vets that are nearing the end.

Don't get me wrong, all reasonable predictions would be that this team is a contender. They're certainly the best in their division, I think the Jets over achieved, Miami has issues at the qb position & a new coach, and the Bills just lost some quality players. I just have a feeling that this will be a transitional year for them & may decide how they proceed w/some of their vets. An off year for them is far better than what most teams hope for. I just don't see them contending for another super bowl and I wouldn't be surprised if they have an up & down year that ends 9-7 or 8-8.

And I suppose you think the Skins will be 12-4? LOL
The Pats now have the most complete team in the NFL. Even after all of thier great signings New England's still got the 13th-most cap room left, $7.7 million and two 1st round draft picks. They are very well managed.

They just added Kelley Washington today, completely revmaping their WR corps yet again. Anyone else remember the mid 80's through the 90s when the Patriots were a wretched organization...yet they still made 2 Super Bowls back then too

I am amazed to hear that players are now taking less money to play for the Pats because they are a top Sb contender. According to CNN.SI "The Titans offered Stallworth more guaranteed money and more average per year than New England did, but the Patriots got him because they're a better team with a better quarterback right now."
And now they signed a very fast WR Washington with a $300,000 signing bonus. Cheap. You know you are doing it right when player will take less money to play for you. That is the true sign of a winning team.

Re: Stallworth to the Pats!

Interesting that no mention is being made of the fact that both Donte nor Washington have had off-the-field issues

Corey Dillon was also a problem child when he arrived and did ok. I think Bellichicken keeps them in line.
