Re: Mort on the Portis trade rumors
there is no way we are going to trade portis, we just turned some of his this years salary into bonus money, we would never do that if we were thinking of trading him.

Re: Mort on the Portis trade rumors
The problem with Clinton is that most of us just want him off of our team. Between the injuries, complaints, media outburts, lack of production, salary, and chemistry, (ie war of wards with Brandon Loyd) I don't think its a good idea to trade him this year, but i'd love to have him gone by next year so we can i one of the upcoming running backs like Jacksonville, or St. Louis has.

Bottom line, Gibbs brought him here & expects him to play & get 20 carries or so a game, even if Betts is healthy. |

Re: Mort on the Portis trade rumors
I've only heard a little about this, and the first time was Fri night from a drunk Dolphin fan. The second was this morning and he was saying we traded for a 3rd, and 4th round pick. Doesn't make any sense to me, simply because we would be receiving a draft pick instead of throwing them away. But either way, I stand behind Betts as I always have. My major problem is if this has some truth, I spent way too much on CP jerseys.

Re: Mort on the Portis trade rumors
tough back? Please, we got ripped off by getting him, he gets paid like a top back but never produces like one. He speaks out against the team's coaching, decision making, His biggest upside is his football savy, and that's not really sayin much. This year he needs to put up some decent football numbers, and minimize the complaints, or get out of town. Maybe find a job with the NFL network or something.

But that's water under the bridge, CP got here & in his 1st 2 seasons carried the ball 20+ times a game, racked up tough yards when we had little passing threat, blocks ANYBODY that gets near the qb & took on a leadership role. A lot of guys don't play their best football after signing big contracts, but CP isn't one of them. Yeah, he was hurt last year, but even the injury that started the preseason was a play indicative of how hard he plays the game. So yes, I'll say he's a tough back & once he's healthy this year, he'll get back to the 1,300 & 1,500 yard form he had in 04 & 05. He may not get the #s cause we'll run Betts more, but he'll make plays & get in the endzone. |

Re: Mort on the Portis trade rumors
No it doesn't. I don't recall him lending to much support especially when his numbers don't reflect a good days work. Though i do recall questiong why we got away from the run game. Excuses for fumbles, complaints about preseason, questioning roster changes, advice on free agency, complaints about workouts, ect. So what i would like to see is more production from him. I may be a little biased against him being around longer than the next upcoming year, fine we all have our preferences, but can we all agree to more production?

He needs to put up "decent numbers" this year? What, the 1200 and 1500 yards he gained the first two seasons don't warrant anything? Oh, right, he didn't lead the league in yards last year b/c he got injured !CHASING DOWN AND TACKLING A DEFENSIVE PLAYER IN A PRESEASON GAME! What an inane post.
