I had just started to argue against what he did two years ago, but alas ive changed my mind. Rather than tell me what he's done, address the points that i made. He played well in our run to the playoffs. I consent that, this is his fourth year with us and i want to see less tv and radio drama and more leadership on the field. If infighting is his thing then he'd be better served elsewhere

He needs to put up "decent numbers" this year? What, the 1200 and 1500 yards he gained the first two seasons don't warrant anything? Oh, right, he didn't lead the league in yards last year b/c he got injured !CHASING DOWN AND TACKLING A DEFENSIVE PLAYER IN A PRESEASON GAME!

What an inane post.
insane? I argue what he's doing off the field, you argue what he accomplishes on it. So again my point is more production. 1200 was nice though it seems that most good backs find this an obtainable number. 1500 is excellent. I still don't want the offield baggage. Insanity?

Well, then let's just cut Campbell cause he didn't produce all that much last year.

Santana's numbers were down to. He's outta here!

Cooley I think his catches and TD's were down. C'ya!

Sellers? Why did we re-up this guy? His TD/touch ratio was WAY off from the previous year. What's the cap hit for cutting him?

Jansen, clearly lost a step last year. No point in him sticking around.

Samuels? Sure he made the pro-bowl - but it was as an alternate. Hit the road bitch.

And what about Sean Taylor, man did he have a down year - Better get his ass outta here before he drags the whole secondary down.

...

Sure we can disagree about the merits of the original trade, we can dispute the merits of CP's off the field statements, and we can even dispute his overall value to the team in terms of total contributions - but to assert that, because he had A down year, he better shape up is beyond laughable (Oh, BTW, did I mention that the only reason he had a down year is because he got injured !CHASING DOWN AND TACKLING A DEFENSIVE PLAYER IN A PRESEASON GAME!)

Stupid Stupid Stupid.

I guess he should have just slapped some duct tape on that separated shoulder, shut his mouth, and ran for 2000 yards last year, then he would have been a team player who has your blessing to play for this team a little longer. Right?

i agree on one thing Stupid... the point of the post was there's no point bringing up what he did in the past. That was never the orginal arguement, it has nothing to do with Clinton's diminished numbers, it has nothing to do with with his (lol) preseason tackle....the balance scale Clinton Portis is on is tipping out of his favor, and belive that this year is gonna be his most important with us

Who would you rather have, if not Portis? And, how would you judge them, if not on their past accomplishments?

Re: Mort on the Portis trade rumors

So the more important question is: do you yield?

First, the word was inane - meaning "lacking sense or substance" and it was used in the contest of your dual assertions that he is not a "tough" back and that his production last year warranted "he better make more yards this year or he is outta here" assertion. Based on his past performance, both those "lack sense or substance".

1500 yards is the mark of an excellent back? Well, CP has only missed that mark twice in his career once b/c he "only" had 1200 yards and once b/c he .... (wait for it) ... got injured !CHASING DOWN AND TACKLING A DEFENSIVE PLAYER IN A PRESEASON GAME!

As for his off the field "drama", I would suggest that (1) He loves playing for JG; (2) JG loves CP; (3) CP gets frustrated when the team doesn't do well and will speak his mind as to what he believes is the cause; and (4) nothing said as a result of (3) will change the underlying truth of (1) and (2).

Further, other than Lloyd and to a lesser extent Dockery (saying he's a great in-line blocker but don't ask him to pull), I have not heard CP call out any other team-mates. Rather, CP has said he wishes more players would speak up for themselves. According to the radio interview which caused such a stir around here, players come to him and Santana to approach the coaches.

You can dispute that he is a team leader b/c he speaks his mind, I would suggest that, b/c he does so and can do so with the knowledge and aquiesence of the coaching staff, other players look to CP as leader on and off the field.

Re: Mort on the Portis trade rumors

Nothing to yield, at the end of the day im still gonna want him to play and keep his mouth closed, though i think im gonna yield arguing against those who keep talking about production as if that were ever the arguement

I am nothing if not diplomatic.

I have also been where you are and you are just going to end up wanting to punch your monitor. Sometimes people won't objectively listen. They believe what they believe no matter what. They can be convinced that 2+2=5 in the face of incontravertable evidence that it in fact equals 4.

Re: Mort on the Portis trade rumors

No way we trade Portis.

I am concerned with his health though. He most likely will not see one snap until opening day.

Betts really played awesome for us when Portis went down. Besides that fumble that lost us the Rams game, he showed me that Betts can be our # 1 running back if Portis does not excell.

We all have to agree that Betts running style is more Joe Gibbs than Portis. Portis has that TD ability every touch though. It will be amazing to see them both have stellar years.

I think they can both go for over 1000 rushing yards this upcoming season.........you????
