Re: Simeon Rice released by Bucs
I would take him. He is still better than every DE we have.

Re: Simeon Rice released by Bucs
I hope you all are correct that Simeons last days are behind him. Just read on the NFL network that the Giants are bringing him in on the 31st for a try out because Strahan (sp) is holding out. Not that I'm scared of the Giants or think we need to sign Simeon so the Giants won't get him but I hope he is damaged goods and does not perform very well especially when we play them if they sign him.

Re: Simeon Rice released by Bucs
The release of Rice was not a cap saving move. If it were, he would have been cut on June 1st.
He was cut because he could not pass a physical and his shoulder is still not healed yet. The guy is rode hard, put up wet and injured. Why sign a guy to a contract if he is not going to be able to contribute? The only team that needs to sign a guy like Rice is one which needs depth at the position. the 'Skins need someone who can come in and contribute from the start. Pass of Rice, watch the waiver wire during camp and you could find someone with more miles on him. |

Re: Simeon Rice released by Bucs
Rice is a turnover forcing machine. He has 32 forced fumbles throughout his career. 2 years ago he had 6 FF's. This team needs someone like that. Who knows maybe Andre Carter will live up to his contract.

Re: Simeon Rice released by Bucs
The skins are known for bringing in bigtime players and they usually get blasted by several media outlets for it. Sometimes they deserve it and sometimes they don't. Simeon Rice would bring praise b/c he brings big play potential. Its a mistake to let someone else sign him. They got the cap to do it. Hopefully the dan can go over gibbs head on this one.

Re: Simeon Rice released by Bucs
Yeah, but cutting Rice is a good football move for them if he truly is injured...and it will likely make space for signing someone like Culpepper.

Why in the hell does TB need any more QB's. They got like 3 that have started at one time or another and another one who thinks he's retired. Another QB would be a stupid move. |

Although, do they really have a viable starter? Getting Culpepper would be an upgrade over what they have.

Re: Simeon Rice released by Bucs
An upgrade is yet to be seen as Culpepper hasn't performed in nearly two years. NFC East fans can attest to the fact that Garcia was hot last year. Simms was comming into his own before he got hurt, and John Gruden was enamored by Gradkowski's "sick passion for football". Plumber isnt officially retired. You are only going to carry 2 (active) of them through the regular season. Something has to give.

Gradkowski had 9 tds and 9 ints in 14 games last year...that sucks. Garcia, well, if you take away last year (10 tds, 2 ints in 8 games) he had 13 tds and 15 ints the previous 2 seasons (17 games). Seriously, who would you rather have Garcia (past his prime and 37) or Culpepper (had one of the greatest football seasons ever)? Plummer, well, I don't quite get him. He's only 32, and he's thrown for the same amount of tds as ints. (161) In 10 years, he has only thrown for over 3k yards 4 times. Plummer has never been a pro bowler either. No one knows if he's playing or not either.

Honestly I do not care other wise, but adding Culpepper just seems silly. |
