Offseason & Preseason

It seems all I see on here is complaining about this and that, who got cut who got signed. Why don't you stay positive and realize all of us armchair GM's don't see these players everyday. Some comments on here sound like people have never even played football. From my observations so far it looks like almost every decision we made has been a good one. Maybe I just like our chances but tell me if you don't agree with the below.

London Fletcher - QB of the Defense and flies all over the place.
Smoot - pretty darn good CB especially for a number 3
Springs - looks healthy and quicker
L. Landry - Looks faster than any player on the field at most time
Rocky - can't say enough about him so far
Marshall - missed alot of Tackles, uses arms to tackle (not shoulder), must still be afraid of his shoulder.
The entire defense - Looks real fast and motivated

J. Campbell - looks pretty good, releasing the ball alot faster
Oline - Samuels is hurt, of course it won't look as good with out a 4 time probowler
Wade - maybe it might not work, Pucillo is not bad though, and 8 million is alot less than 49 million, and remember they didn't sign L Davis for 49 million just because someone said they offered him that doesn't mean it happened. We are involved in every rumor.
B. LLoyd - looks bigger and quicker and seems to be more dedicated
The running game - it is preseason Portis hasn't played and Samuels has been out.

Pretty much every move they have made or not made has turned out well, the only thing I wish they did was sign Dockery before his contract year everyone knew he would be good.

Can you say 10-11 wins and playoffs?

Re: Offseason & Preseason

I agree with most of what you have said. For example, our off season moves on defense look like they will really pan out, and Id bet that if we get nothing else out of the season at least our defense will once a again reach the top 5 status it enjoyed before last season.

I think, however that our offensive line situation has made everyone hesitant to declare us a playoff bound team. No offense in the NFL can produce anything without a solid offensive line no matter what kind of weapons they have to work with (Arizona). A team like that will leave opposing teams in games for too long, and allow games to come down to the wire too often. Let's hope Tod Wade gets comfortable at G and that Heyer develops quickly because if they dont, we have no depth on the. I know maybe Pucillo could step in if Wade sinks past his knees, but he is also our depth at C. I see any major injury on the Oline being devastating to our team.

Who knows though, you could be right, maybe the defense wil be good enough to carry the team on their back once again, and we'll make the playoffs. Im just not sold on that quite yet.

Re: Offseason & Preseason

I feel ya, and I've been optimistic for most of the offseason.
I admit this LG & LT situation has made me uneasy, combined w/the hit on JC, it makes me feel like 04 - great D, no O. I realize it's way too early. Even after a few reg. season games, the O might not be gelling, but that doesn't mean they won't later in the year when it counts.

Yesterday was hard on me, kinda surprised myself at how I reacted to the Marshall cut. I don't question the coaches' knowledge & evaluation, but I do question the overall team concept or lack thereof this organization creates. Cutting Marshall & bringing in RG just doesn't strike me as being good for team chemistry, in fact it seems to echo what many ex skins say about this org. looking outside all the time.

I guess a big part of it for me is that I grew up watching Gibbs' teams & building an affinity for players that he stuck with. I realize that was before free agency (except plan b) & the cap, but Gibbs has vowed to instill some of that loyalty here to "core redskins" but for a no. of reasons, many not his fault, that has been easier said than done. I will give them credit for re-signing a bunch of guys this offseason, which really was the story to me - we re-signed everybody we could on O, except for Dock & his agent knew there was $ out there.

On the other hand though, the Marshall cut seems to be antithetical to the moves we've made all offseason. I wish they could've kept him & brought in Godfrey. I guess the roster spots just arent' there to do it. I sure hope Sartz & Blades can earn a spot. Sadly, I may feel vindicated by this if Marshall gets cut somewhere else. While I'd like to see him do well, if he gets cut somewhere else, at least we then are assured it's not just the Skins coaches that feel he's not the same player anymore.

I don't know if it means much but I don't think you can really argue that we're light years ahead of where we were at this point last year

So you mean we're not light years ahead of last year? Not quite clear.

Ok, I'll edit:

While it's only preseason, and preseason isn't necessarily a harbinger of things to come (did I use harbinger right?), we are performing at a higher level at this point this year then we were at the same point last year. If you wish to argue this point with me, don't bother. Just accept your 3 month ban you anarchist non-conformist communist guerilla hippie rebel!

No, I quite agree with you. We are light years ahead of last year. I think you can really argue that we are.
