Now that's well thought out Schneed and a good post. I think Gibbs the team President has tried to help Gibbs the coach, but he's just got too many irons in the fire. In my opinion, instead of giving up play calling, he should've given up being a GM. At the same time, I understand why Gibbs took on that role as well. Still, if all that Gibbs has to concentrate on is coaching this team, we'd be an elite team right now. Joe is still the Joe Gibbs from the glory years, but he's spreading himself way too thin. He needs some help in the FO.

He's done some good things with player acquisition. Most of the free agents he's brought in were good. Though Griffin, Washington, and Moss are looking less like the big winners they were back in 2004. Those guys are hurt a little too often for my tastes. He's made good picks with Anthony Montgomery, Kedric Golston, Jason Campbell, Chris Cooley, Sean Taylor, etc. Campbell especially may have the capability to keep us in the playoff hunt every year. And you're right, they have said they'll keep 2008's draft picks, so that seems to show they're learning their lesson.

So I can't totally crap on Gibbs. After all, we're in a much better situation than we were when Spurrier was here, which says a lot. And I think we'd be 7-2 right now if we never lost Randy Thomas to injury (goalline beast).

But man, it just sucks because we're feeling those personnel decisions right this very minute. When you're 5-4 with tons of players hurt, and facing a pretty tough road in the last 7 games, no depth equals no playoffs, in my humble opinion.

Depth is a funny thing. Last year we were saying how much better the team would be if Prioleau hadn't gotten hurt and he was playing instead of Archuleta. This year we're lamenting needing Prioleau to play while Taylor sits out.

Playoffs or no playoffs, this won't be the year the Redskins return to glory.

Nothing glorious about being the 6th seed in the NFC at 9-7...but it does mean more football, which should be the goal at this point. Just last as long as you can.

Anyway, you already know I agree with you on the personnel moves. The logic behind those were very straightforward, the only problem was the only scouting done on them was asking Al Saunders what he thought of them. We brought Saunders in here, treated him like a godsend offensive mastermind, and got burned. Now we keep him in his corner and let him run practice and make game plans. He doesn't really have Gibbs' trust in personnel imput though.

Trying to acquire a power back, a receiver with reputation of an up and comer, and an established safety with a rep for being a big hitter seemed good in theory at the time, but the team simply acted before doing their homework. Over the next few seasons, we will feel the effects of those moves.

Yeah, pretty much.

We really have invested so much in the secondary over the years. It's a shame that we are so reliant on it's dominance. Normally, I'd be very happy with Landry, Smoot, Springs, and Prioleau in the secondary. That's a lot better than the Rogers, Wright, Taylor, and Vernon Fox we were playing with last year. The problem is this team set the bar really high for itself at the beginning of the year, but doesn't have the talent anymore to fulfill these expectations.

I said at the beginning of the year on this here fourm that the Redskins had a better chance to beat the Eagles on the road in Week 2 than they did at home in Week 10. The difference in depth between these two teams is mind boggling. We were able to get them when we had a healthy defense, but as the season began to sap our players, there became a point in which the Eagles passed us in the level of talent they had on the field. Seems like the only position(s) where we have them now is MLB, TE, and arguably Quarterback. Back in September, we had them on the offensive line, at the receivers, in the secondary, and even on the defensive line. They just have solid depth at those positions and we do not.

We still have a one game lead on them and they still have a way tougher schedule down the stretch so we should stay ahead of them.

I like the way you tried to link this site with my bashing of the skins as to drum up mod sympathy for your personal problems with me, how lawyer esc of you, simple, and childish, but a true lawyer none the less. I have always from day one been respectful to this site and to the members here until someone like yourself decides to make it personal, then I will lay into an individual who is asking for it just like yourself, otherwise I usually just keep disagreeing with them, I don't have to call them names and attack them personally like yourself, of coarse that is what people do when they have no more answers but can't admit defeat, they make it personal. I have problems with people who view the team, any important issue, or the world in black and white terms and reduce everything to right and wrong, good v. evil, etc. Note that I have only asked about 2 people (including you) to leave this site in the past year or so. Prioleau is a good blitzer, but is ordinary in coverage. Arch was supposedly a good blitzer and ordinary in coverage, but ended up blowing at both.

Perhaps Grilliams will consider sending Prioleau on blitzes while keeping Landry in coverage.

I think there are two significant reasons for that, and they kind of go hand in hand.

1) Taylor is playing like the best safety in the NFL right now. He's intercepting a lot of passes and knocking down plenty more.

2) GW changed his defensive scheme with Taylor in mind. Taylor sits back playing center field because he's got that crazy range.

Our scheme is now much more reliant on Taylor's abilities than it was last year. That's why this hurts so much. If he's not back there, GW needs to re-adjust his scheme a bit, we'll have to gamble more and send the blitz.
