NFL sends letter to Cowboys' Newman, stating he's being watched

Dallas Cowboys being trash again, oops, I mean talking trash. Kitna said nothing too bad, just stating that he thinks another player is better than Newman, then the Cowboy player starts making threats and acting like a thug. The league is watching him now.

Quote:
"Basically, what it boils down to is you've got to watch what you say," Newman told SIRIUS NFL Radio. "Your mouth can't write checks that your ass can't cash. That's what it comes down to. Everybody's going to see those quotes.

(Kitna) better just hope I don't blitz off the edge because I've got 15, 25, 30 thousand dollars, however much it would be for a fine. Revenge will be sweet, definitely." - Terrence Newman

Newman gets warning after comments on Kitna

IRVING -- Cowboys cornerback Terence Newman has been scolded by the NFL. Newman received a letter from the league in regards to his comments about going after Detroit quarterback Jon Kitna Sunday.

The letter, which was posted on his locker, was signed by Ray Anderson, NFL vice president of football operations, who admonished Newman and called his comments "thoughtless and irresponsible."

Anderson said that the league would monitor his play during the game and that he could be fined or suspended if it determines that he followed through on his threat of bodily harm to Kitna.

During an interview Tuesday on Sirius satellite radio, Newman said, "Your mouth can't write checks that your (butt) can't cash. … He better just hope I don't blitz off the edge because I've got 15, 25, 30 (thousand dollars), however much it would be for a fine. I've got that much for one fine. Revenge will be sweet, definitely."

Newman is upset by remarks Kitna made last year after the Lions' 39-31 victory over the Cowboys.

"We definitely felt like Terence Newman was the best corner that they had, so we knew we needed to be careful with him," Kitna told a Seattle radio station. "But even with him, I mean, he's not [Seattle cornerback] Marcus Trufant, in my opinion. He doesn't have that kind of ability. It wasn't like you were scared to throw at him, I guess."

Cowboys: Newman targets Kitna for 'revenge'

San Antonio Express-News
Dallas Cowboys cornerback Terence Newman said Tuesday the threat of a fine won't be a deterrent should he get the chance to take a shot at Detroit quarterback Jon Kitna on Sunday.

Newman's comments came one day after Cowboys linebacker Bradie James said he was looking forward to making Kitna pay for comments he made in January about the Dallas defense.

In an interview with a Seattle radio station shortly after Kitna led the Lions to a 39-31 victory over the Cowboys in last season's finale, Kitna called James ineffective and said he didn't think Newman was as talented as Seahawks corner Marcus Trufant.

"Basically, what it boils down to is you've got to watch what you say," Newman told SIRIUS NFL Radio. "Your mouth can't write checks that your ass can't cash. That's what it comes down to. Everybody's going to see those quotes.

"He better just hope I don't blitz off the edge because I've got 15, 25, 30 (thousand dollars) however much it would be for a fine. I've got that much for one fine. Revenge will be sweet, definitely."

The NFL has handed out fines of $15,000 this season for flagrant helmet-to-helmet hits on quarterbacks and in November told its officiating crews to eject players who deliver such blows.

Newman said he was surprised Kitna would make such disparaging comments with Dallas and Detroit scheduled to play again this season.

"We've got a chance to kind of put our foot in his butt," Newman said.

"We've got to go out and do it, though. We can't (just) talk about it."

The odds of Kitna getting hit a few times by the Cowboys are high considering the Lions have allowed a league-high 50 sacks, including 47 against Kitna, the NFC's sixth-rated passer with an 87.8 rating.

Dallas is tied with Pittsburgh for fourth in the league with 33 sacks. Outside linebackers DeMarcus Ware and Greg Ellis have combined for 201/2 sacks for the 11-1 Cowboys, who have won six-straight games and can clinch their first division title in nine years with a victory over the 6-6 Lions, losers of five straight.

good thread with alot of sources there buster, thank you.

seems like the NFl is handling it properly right now. cant have players going into games with a personal vendetta to hurt another specific player. i'll bet money some other cowboys player tries to make good on newman's comments since he will be watched clsoely.

so we are rooting for the cowchips to beat the lions? man thats a hard reality to accept. hope the lions lose thoo.

go skins!

I'm sure the league will have that in mind and will act if they feel anything by anyone is intentional.

I can NEVER root for the Cowboys. I want them to lose. Don't worry, the Lions are capable of losing the rest of their games after this one.

Re: NFL sends letter to Cowboys' Newman, stating he's being watched

Yeah, does anyone else think Kitna said anything so bad? (Kitna's quotes I put in BLUE, Newman's in RED.

I don't.

Newman is a piece of trash...he fits in well on his team though.

Maybe Tank Johnson will be the "hit man". He's certainly qualified.

I'd be interested in seeing how the Dallas fanboards are reacting to their "tough" guy and this situation. They're probably supporting and defending him like all of the other criminals they've had over the years.

Re: NFL sends letter to Cowboys' Newman, stating he's being watched

For what Kitna said, I don't think it's anything "bad" really, but it might be something that's like bulletin-board material for Newman. I mean, it's definitely not something where you're going to talk about HURTING someone over.

If I were Newman, I would have taken the funny and classy way out and be like, "Well, Kitna is the best quarterback they have, but he's no Ryan Leaf."

Re: NFL sends letter to Cowboys' Newman, stating he's being watched

I agree Newman is taking things way too far, but at the same time Kitna just needs to shut up.

For some reason his dumbass always has something to say. Didn't he promise 12 wins or something this season? I don't know too many QBs in the league that make their beliefs about DBs known to the media. Why would you do that? It just adds fuel to the fire. Newman is a wannabe thug, but Kitna needs to just keep his big mouth shut. he isn't even that good.

Trufant: 62 tackles, 4 INTs, 12 passDEFL

Newman: 36 tackles, 4 INTs, 11 passDEFL

Kitna's probably right about Trufant being better.

Who threatens cheap shots on QBs and says he doesn't care about fines.

I meant trash character-wise, not stat-wise.

Kitna's probably right about Trufant being better.
That could be a misleading stat. If teams are throwing alot towards his area that could be why he has so many tackles.

Adam Arch led our team in tackles for quite sometime when he was on the skins, but by no means was he any good.

Yeah, if it was known they were friends, the league wouldn't have been so serious about it.

Re: NFL sends letter to Cowboys' Newman, stating he's being watched

First off he never said anything about hurtin Kitna just that he was going to hit him and if they fine him so what. Why do we have to use the word thug anytime a player says or doeas something like this. Hasn't that word been thrown around enough the past 10 or so days? This is football and the old timers said and did this stuff all the time and no one was ever offended. Next we will have people calling boxers thugs for saying they are going to beat up on the other guy.
