Re: Love for Portis....finally
Aikman referred to Portis as his favorite player in the league a few weeks ago.
As a whole though, he doesn't get as much love as he should. He singlehandedly carried Washington into the playoffs a couple years ago. He's stepped up in December again this year, and is extremely effective behind a makeshift offensive line. He's an animal. |

Re: Love for Portis....finally
The juke move he put on the Vikings defender on that TD run was sweet, but it didn't hurt that the Viking on that play gave a lame effort. Still, I'll take it.

Re: Love for Portis....finally
I am just saying I never hear them refer to Clinton Portis when they are talking about great backs. I hear Aikman and Buck say some positive things, but I never hear them say "wow, that Clinton Portis" like you do when they talk about Ladanian Tomlinson. I honestly think that CP is as good as Ladanian Tomlinson. Its the same, when the Skins are doing good, they talk how great we are, when we're bad, CP sucks and can't handle the league any longer and that he is made of glass. Let's face it, Portis is a great back in that he does it all when given the opportunity

Every so often a guy like Larry Johnson or Adrian Peterson comes along and gets a bunch of hype, but none of them have the staying power or consistency of LT.

Re: Love for Portis....finally
portis is a stud. my favorite back man. great blocker, works harder than is lead on, extremely explosive, fast, runs with his pads low, tough, can say enough about him...when healthy with a good line he would be right up there with LT, i garuntee it, look at his numbers. the guy has never run for less than 1300 yards in a season he played more than 8 games. stud.

Re: Love for Portis....finally
Let's remeber that Portis is capable of 1500+ yards when given the oppurtunity. I have never seen LT man up and block the hell out of somebody like Portis. I just wish the media would say wow, that protis is one of the premier backs in the league like they did in Denver. I don't think he gets enough credit.

i tend to agree with ya. he gets some love from the announcers calling the skins games, especially madden and aikmen but when it comes to those nfl shows, he doesn't get nearly the credit or recognition he deserves.

Re: Love for Portis....finally
People tend to forget that CP is the 8th leading rusher in the league and is within 50 yards of the top 5 (for perspective, that's 3.5 extra yards per game). Not to mention 12th in total yards, which is really impressive considering how much time he spends back there blocking instead of sneaking out as the check-down option on passing plays.

Re: Love for Portis....finally
portis is the best blocking back in the league,LT can't touch him on that level.i have always liked portis, but it seems like it just took him longer to really open up this season.i guess that can be chalked up to not playing during preseason.

Re: Love for Portis....finally
My thought exactly. Give him an offseason and preseason and he's top 5 again. Plus, there is nobody close to him in pass blocking.
