Re: Joe must stay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I say let him coach till he wants to quit. Never two losing seasons in a row.

Re: Joe must stay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not to sound like a broken record but this is Joe Gibbs best year as a coach regardless of the infamous Buffalo game. Joe and his staff have done what no other HOF coach could do. Against all odds we make the playoffs with 6 starters missing and all the other tragic events to hit the team. I thought the 1992 season was his best, but this season puts the icing on the cake. Thank you Joe and to all fans be grateful your team has the best coach EVER!!

That is 12 of 22 starters out at points or all of the season, with ST killed.

By the way, the thread should be titled: HOF Coach Gibbs must stay!

Never forget that he is already in the HOF, and deserves our respect!

Absolutely! The man is on the Mount Rushmore of all-time great coaches and continues to solidify that status with runs like this! I know we can beat Seattle!

Re: Joe must stay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Personally I was very very happy for Joe today. He got a little choked up in his presser talking about what a low point the Buffalo game was. W/out question Gibbs is a great leader of men.

Let's also give credit to GW and the guys on defense. To hold Dallas to 1 yard rushing was just ridiculous.

...Joe Gibbs-Coach of the Year! Yeah, that's right. I was one of those that criticized Coach Gibbs previously, but after being witness to what he and his team have overcome, how could you NOT consider him as the very best this season?

Re: Joe must stay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The thing about a guy like Joe is that we as fans will probably NEVER know all the things that have been blamed on him, attributed to him, or otherwise laid at his feet, that weren't really his fault, because he's the kind of guy who accepts responsibility when things go bad, and shares all the spoils of war when he has success.

That's classic leadership and anyone who's ever held a leadership position recognizes those hallmarks easily.

I have said many times that it didn't even matter whether we made the playoffs because Joe did something that needed to be done: he restored basic principles of Redskins Football to this franchise, and brought some dignity back to this team. Being in the playoffs (and fighting our way in, controlling our own destiny, not backing in) is a really amazing exclamation point IMO, because it accomplishes another really huge thing: it shows Redskins fans, and probably more importantly, Redskins players, that we are winners.

To put it in perspective -- Detroit had a better team this year than they've had since the Barry Sanders era, and they couldn't make it in, because they don't have a guy like Joe Gibbs. They have a culture of losing.

Look at another team that dominated during Joe's first campaign -- the 49ers. This year they were supposed to turn the corner, with a Frank Gore coming off a monster year last year, Alex Smith steadily getting better, they signed Darrell Jackson as a seemingly legit WR1 and they scored freak of nature Vernon Davis (Go Terps) at TE. They have been horrible.

Arizona had a hell of a year, finished only two games back behind a really weak Seattle team, but still couldn't do better than .500! They haven't done this well in nearly a DECADE.

Hell, look at New Orleans and Chicago. The window might be closed for those teams. Winning consistently is hard in the NFL. The difference between 9-7 and 4-12 is only 5 games, but it's continents away. Unreachable for a lot of teams.

I think we take that for granted because Joe Gibbs is our coach. To me, that says a lot about Joe Gibbs and what he means to this organization.

Re: Joe must stay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What I love most about all this is how he showed what it means to stick to your principles, through thick and thin. He said it again and again: character first. And it sounded like a tired cliche at times, that the game had passed him by, and he was living in a different era. Character? In this day and age? And then, when the most devastating season I've ever heard of falls on the team, when injuries, heart-breaking loses, horrible errors, sickness, stroke, and murder befall us, character shows its true worth. Never, not once, did a skin player point fingers, lose heart, throw in the towel. And here we are, going to the playoffs.

Here's what happened: a group of super-smart guys with real character and class--core redskins playing redskin football--fought their guts out. The lord blessed us with a great group of guys. And a great head coach. Here's to you, Joe Gibbs! An inspiration as a coach and a man. It may sound cliche, but it happens to be true.

Re: Joe must stay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think some of our team leaders also deserve a lot of credit for keeping us on the right path post Taylor.

I mean, I don't think any objective football fan thought this team would try to honor Sean by just giving up on the season. The expectation was that a group of professionals would be able to move on and keep playing at a high level despite the loss of a teammate.

That doesn't make what this team has accomplished any less impressive. We lost our best football player, and we just dominated three teams who were playing better than us when we had Sean and Jason, so that's really saying something.
