Jets and Giants build a new stadium

Only months before winning Super Bowl XLII, the New York Giants helped to break ground on a brand new, $1.3 billion stadium that will house both them and the New York Jets. The new stadium is located next the two team’s current home, Giants Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ.
Opening for the 2010 National Football League season, the new Meadowlands Stadium will seat 82,500, an increase of more than two thousand seats from the current stadium. The challenge that was presented to the design team of 360 Architects and builders Skanska AB was to create a state of the art stadium with new features while keeping some of the old elements of the current stadium.
“The design of the stadium and the seating bowl allows our fans the continued intimate feel of the current Giants Stadium, a characteristic that our players and fans love,” Giants president and CEO John Mara said in a press release. “Just like it is now for our fans, the open sightlines throughout will be enhanced by the four spectacular video screens in each corner. In addition, cutting edge sound systems, digital boards and electronic signage will work together to form an experience where everything has its place. The live experience will be unmatched anywhere in the NFL.”
With the current name of the stadium being Giants Stadium and is covered in blue and white, the Jets and their fans have naturally felt like outcasts in their home stadium. The new stadium will have the ability to change its look overnight due to its unique exterior. Covered in louvers, or angled aluminum panels, interior lighting will be able to reflect the colors of whichever team is playing on that Sunday, appearing green for the Jets and blue for the Giants.
The stadium will not carry over the Giants Stadium moniker, creating the possibility for a bidding war for the naming rights. The combination of the NFL’s marketing power and the stadium being just outside of New York could make naming rights the costliest ever. Marc Ganis, president of the Chicago sports marketing firm SportsCorp Ltd., told the Associated Press that he expects the deal to be around $25 to $30 million yearly.
The cost of the stadium is estimated to be around $1.3 billion and is being privately financed by the Jets and the Giants.
“This partnership between the Jets and Giants is unique not only for the NFL but in all of sports. A 100% privately financed stadium by two teams is unprecedented,” NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said at the groundbreaking. “Given the attention to detail that the ownership and their front office teams are putting into this stadium, it promises to be a first-class facility for Giants and Jets fans and a showcase for the NFL.”
It has yet to be announced whether the teams will use personal seat licenses, or PSLs, for their season tickets. But with the Dallas Cowboys using record-setting PSLs for their new $1 billion stadium, that team’s success could have an impact on the Giants

Actually, Mythbusters proved that Hoffa is NOT underneath it...it was just a myth.

I don't understand why the Jets / Giants don't want their own stadiums and their own persona's. This would be the perfect time to separate from each other, but they are not. The Giants won another super bowl for pete's sake, stop letting the inferior Jets hover around you.

How about the giants make the jets play somewhere else such as the old stadium, or perhaps at Shea stadium? They are a god awful team anyway.

Id give him a week. You'll see it on Extreme Makeover: Stadium Edition, and they will have the retractable roof, 110,000 seat stadium done in a week.

I've never seen anyone consider building a new stadium so soon. Besides I hope we don't get get the retractable roof. Redskin football is meant to played outside in brutal rainy weather, not a perfect air conditioned enviornmnet.

I really wish though that people would take a look at the soccer stadiums throughout Europe. A lot of them are beautiful, not to mention creative. New Wembley, the place where the Giants and Dolphins played, is a great example of an indoor stadium done right. Protect the fans but leave the field exposed to the elements. Also did anyone know that Dan Synder is trying to buy the Tottenham Hotspurs?

........and will for at least 10 more years .The deal with Prince George's county becuase of improvements made to the roads and the beltway(495) and around the stadium is binding and with what it would cost to buy it out...no and lets not forget the matter of the stadium must be sold off to a new team before the Skins can leave.Yup Cook got a hell of a deal but he also locke that team where it is for at least 10 more years.
The cost would be so enormous to leave and add on the cost of another new stadium with Snyder's business holdings not doing well right now....it just won't happen.

Actual there had been some talk that the stadium could be turned into a mall. Then the Redskins could move back to DC but, does it matter and do I care? NAH, just more money for Danny Boy.

Since the talk about stadiums I was curious if anyone knows why we have one of the crappiest Video Screens and Sound Systems in the NFL. I am really surprised that Danny-Boy hasn’t made an upgrade to them. If any of you have been to a Ravens game in Baltimore you know what I am comparing ours too. My father and I have season tickets to the skins and my company has Ravens tickets in which I have to take clients too and the in game experience with better equipment is amazing.

I have been to a few other NFL venues all of which have much better in game experiences with better equipment. Don’t get me wrong I love going to root on my Skins at home, but wish with all the money us loyal fans spend we could use a makeover here. Let me know what you think.
