Drayton Florence off market
Redskins Insider
Well, according to this we may go after Lito Sheppard now. We need a quality DB in free agency or we're gonna be forced to take one in Round 1. |

I was listening to Mel Kiper the other night & he said that Flowers running a 4.58 in the combine was nothing to get worked up over. He cited a lot of examples of combine workouts being false advertising. On nfl network they talked about "manufactured speed." These guys work on their 40 times for the combine & it boosts their stock. But how many cb's run in a game from a 3 pt. stance? 40 times are a better measure of wr speed than db's. There are a no. of guys that are probably at least a little overated. Rogers-Cromartie is one of those guys that teams might take a chance on because of his combine showing, but before that he wasn't that high a prospect. We can get a good corner that can play nickel his rookie year & eventually start w/out using our 1st round pick IMO. |

I don't contest we need a DB, but I think its big enough to draft one with our #1 pick.

Re: Drayton Florence off market
I don't think we NEED to draft a cb w/our first pick at all. I think it's a matter of who's availalbe when we pick, but the preference has to be to pick a d-linemen at 21.

Re: Drayton Florence off market
The Redskins trading for Lito is simply speculation on the part of JLC. And frankly I think it would be a mistake for the Redskins.
The draft is deep at CB, so they can definitely get a solid player in the 2nd round.

Re: Drayton Florence off market
According to the mock drafts and scouting reports Indiana's Tracey Porter and Arizona's Antoine Cason are prime canidates to be selected by the Redskins in the 2nd round. I still say they take Devin Thomas in the 1st and will make an attempt to trade for DeWayne Robertson rather then drafting a DL before the 7th round. Of course this is all speculation on my part as well.

Re: Drayton Florence off market
What does everyone think of Randal Gay from the Patriots? I haven't heard much said about him as far as teams going after him. I think he would be a solid contributor at nickel who could start in a pinch and we might get him for a decent price.
Sounds like our kind of guy.

Re: Drayton Florence off market
I think there is a greater need for us to get a WR from free agency than a DB. As someone said, the draft is deep with DBs...and honestly we need depth within the DBs, whereas in the WRs we need an impact player.

Re: Drayton Florence off market
Drayton Florence got a much better deal than we probably would have been able to offer him anyway, so "good for him"
I'm hoping we go D-line with #21 though CB is certainly a position of need. I have no idea who will be available at #42 but there are several good corners that may be there. Tracy Porter, Antoine Cason, and Terrell Thomas could all be available depending on the order of priority. Ty Law was cut from the Chiefs, he's 33 and looking for a job. j/k. |
