I agree. I loved Lohmiller, and was upset when he hung em up. He's got a way to go before being in Chip's catagory, but it shows you how bad our kickers have been over the past decade or so.

Re: Redskins Tender Contract to Suisham
does anyone remember the 30 yarder he missed in the Seahawks game? that was such a momentum killer!!! I think they are just scared they are going to miss out on a David Akers again like they did before...

Re: Redskins Tender Contract to Suisham
I think we all do, but you can't judge an entire season on one kick. That image will take a while to get out of my head, but I am willing to give him another shot. If he sucks next year, then we will likely cut ties and move on. But who knows, that kick could have woke this kid up to become more determined to be special.

Re: Redskins Tender Contract to Suisham
People love to point out the miss, but he nailed his share of big kicks for us as well.
How about the week 1 game winner against the Dolphins? Or how about the 5 for 5 day against the Jets including the OT game winner? |

Re: Redskins Tender Contract to Suisham
I keep hearing the same thing on other forums about the kickoffs. It has been pointed out before that his hang time is much greater than most other kickers. Anything close to 4 seconds is excellent and his are consistently over 4 seconds. Look at Rackers - he line drives them 10 yards deep in the endsone yet most are returned. Why - no hang time and the coverage can't get down that fast. As well, look at the other kickers that Danny Smith has coached - he asks them to directional kick and sky kick against good return men. This definitely affects distance. It's ironic - Suisham was the kickoff specialist for Vandershank when he first went to Dallas. So is he capable of line driving it deeper - I would think so. It would lead me to believe that too much directional kicking is being asked of him and the room for error is much greater than just kicking the ball straight down the middle as far as you can. I looked at most of the games on NFL.com and went through the play-by-play. The opposing kicker had very similar kickoff distance as Suisham in the same playing conditions. You look at a guy like Janikowski - he only played one game in cold weather - Green Bay - and his kickoff distances were to the 3 and the 7 - and he has the most powerful leg in the League.
