If anything I thought his inauguration was a sad commentary on a botched election and a president that the general population didn't elect.

I guess you missed some of my other posts, I never said I had no respect for the guy. And just because I'm not a fan of the president that means I have no respect for the nation? Now we're really jumping to conclusions huh?

Think twice before you jump on someone next time and maybe take some of your own advice about growing up.
Re-read the rest of your idiotic posts calling the President names.

Botched election? Seems like you had a botched education. The electoral college determines the winner. Before Al Gore suggested it, no one ever believed the popular vote is the system we use or should.

Understood. I think though that using the word "prick" usually implies mean-spirited or "evil". What would you "prefer" if you had to choose though. A President who with good intentions but no clear plan or one with the wrong ideals but flawless execution? Of course, that maybe more of a hypothetical question that doesn't necessarily need to be answered here.

As to the second part of your post, I respect that. And I'm not trying to pigeonhole you of course. I just think that for a lot of people the cheering in Yankee Stadium 7 years ago and the booing at Nationals Park last week were more a result of the mob mentality of "hey everyone else is doing it, I should too." I'll "boo" when I check the ballot box

I understand your opinion of Bush is negative, but if you are going to condemn him for being an idiot and getting us into Iraq, then you must also condemn the liberals in Congress who supported the war.

I don't think the President should be booed in the environment of throwing out the first pitch at a baseball game. As much as I dislike/disagree with President Clinton, President Carter, I wouldn't boo them in that setting. At the State of the Union address the opposite side of the President never boos, they just remain silent.

I don't care if you're a mod or not, grow up.

The position of the President needs to be respected no matter who it is or how much you disagree with him. He is not to be called "Bush", "W", "George Jr." or anything other than "President Bush" or "Mr. President".

The same went with "President Clinton" and with our members of Congress, no matter how much of an idiot they make themselves out to be sometimes. They still earned the position and deserve that respect even if you can't respect them individually.

I doubt he'd want to get a picture with someone acting like a prick himself, but he's always completely courteous to EVERYONE he meets, even if they're being immature, vulgar little idiots. When someone yells something or interrupts his speeches, he doesn't miss a beat and doesn't criticize them. I have never seen anything but class from our President, despite the fact that he's received the most horrible crap thrown his way.

Like his politics or not, he's honest with you and tells you what he believes, whether you agree or not. He doesn't govern by polls like the previous President.

You have to respect that. Of course, I doubt you will based on your prior childish comments.

I don't care if you don't call him "your" President because you can't get past politics, stop letting your heart lead your head and learn some respect.

If one of the Democrats I disagree with on nearly every issue is elected in November, sure I'll be disappointed and will publicly disagree with many of their decisions and views, but they will still get the respect of being referred to by the title they earned through votes and their work.

Hey, if you are so much more superior and can do a better job, you can run for the office. You'll get my respect even if I believe you're wrong and horrible for the job.

Also, I can't stand the idiots who say "OOOOOOO" during the National Anthem and the people who keep their hats on. Don't agree with everything your nation is doing? Neither do I, but grow up and have some respect for the nation that has been earned by the lives of brave men and women for over 200 years and has let you live in more freedom, safety and prosperity than any other nation in the world.

If you don't respect the nation, get out.
I skipped through most of this, but....I totally agree about "OOOOO" during the National Anthem. It's unbelievably stupid and annoying, imo.

Bottom line is this: if you decide to throw out the first pitch in a liberal city with a 30 percent approval rating you get what's coming to you.

Nice. I'd rather just not continue any sort of discussion with you since you're intent on dragging this into the mud with insults directed towards me.

I'll call the president whatever I want to, that's my right, love it or leave it.

Next.

I think what is getting lost in all of the rancor in this thread is that no reasonable person would disagree with you about your right, both God given and constitutionally, to speak freely but I think plenty of folks have less respect for someone who throws nasty names around and boo disprespectfully(in their minds) than for a President doing a poor job.

I think it might surprise a lot of the booers to know how many people would say they have less respect for the booers than President Bush in this situation.

Perhaps that's what's wrong with our country if people are more upset about booing and name calling than a president who's inept.

I didn't have time to read all 100 posts in this thread, but I did read the last two pages.

I'm upset about having an inept president, but I'm also upset about his being booed. It's no secret he has a low approval rating. He knows it, every citizen in the US knows it.

But this is the commander-in-chief of our country throwing out the first pitch on opening day in a brand new ball park in our nation's capital. I think whoever made the point about the "mob mentality" is correct. A few started, everyone else chimes in.

Booing this man at this event shows people's general lack of perspective. In my opinion the opening day first pitch is about the Presidency as a whole and tradition in our great nation. It's not about the fans' individual political alignment on that particular day. I was embarrassed to hear our President booed, even if our President is a man who's politics I drastically disagree with at this point.

very good post GM.

booing the president of the united states of america while he's throwing the first pitch of a baseball game is totaly classless and shows a total lack of respect.

Re: GW Bush booed at Nationals' opener

Sad, we sould not be booing the leader of our country no matter how poor his term in office was or what mistakes he has made. The difference between a coach and th epres is that th epres leads us the coach leads the team we root for we do not need to give him respect. Just lucky that we can boo the president without special police walking around shooting you if you did.

He's lucky all they did was boo him. Respect is earned and god knows that man hasn't earned any. Silence is betrayal, always speak your mind.
