I am so glad they are working on this. Smoot has become one of the team leaders and definitely leads by example. Last season he had a bruised sternum and missed one game and played hurt the rest of the season. Last week he had obviously hurt his shoulder and was still making tackles throwing his hurt shoulder and arm into the person he was tackling!!!! We really need to keep Fred on this team!!!! He and Springs make a great cornerback tandem!!! Champ who????????? GO SSSSSSSMMMMMMMOOOOOOOOOOOOTTTTTTT!!!!

Thank God. SMOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT is going to be a Redskin'!!!
When this deal is done, I might dance a jig. Although reading this article, is says he is expected ot ask for Bailey/McCalister type money. I love Smoot, and if thats what it takes to keep him, do it no questions asked. Does anyone think thats a litlte much though? |

haven't seen Smoot get burnt much. and he's a consistently sure tackler now too! (except on a blitz heh). his addition to the team also includes a lot of off the field stuff that eventually does end up on the field. whats the price for a true Redskin?

"Bailey's agent, Jack Reale, said Tuesday night that the deal is for $63 million over seven years. The deal includes $23 million in combined signing bonus, guaranteed money and roster bonuses." - IMO this is WAY too much. I think something in Springs' neighbourhood would be fairer. Springs' deal: 6 years, $30M, $13M in combined signing and roster bonuses. Bailey's deal is crazy and I hope we don't see something like that on our books. We already have Samuels and Arrington. |

Smoot is worth whatever the highest price can be paid. There are few players on this team that deserve and earn their pay. Smoot is a real Redskin. 5 ints his first and second year and 4 ints in his third year tells us why Bailey is out of here. He is the player I call on the most while the defense is at work.

i love smoot, i hope he is a redskin for life.
with that said, i dont think that he is a top tier cornerback. he is very close but not there yet. the previous years of his career, he had to cover teams #2 WR while champ took the top WR. i would love to see him matchup with Moss/harrison/owens/other playmakers. till then, he isnt worth champ money. although, because of age, i think he should get paid more than springs. plus, he is Mr. Redskin. |

I think that the deal that comes across will be both fair for Smoot and fair for the team. Now, that number might be kind of large, but it certainly wouldn't be the largest offer that he would have received going into free agency.
Smoot possesses all of the kinds of things a coach could want: a love for the game, toughness, dedication, spirit, intelligence, and just an overall good attitude. I think these intangibles are worth more than most of the physical skills any player can bring to the table. So, in conclusion, I'm glad he'll be coming back (it's obvious that's the only thing he wants) because I think he's a great player and a great guy (I've even met him a few times).
