JLC...Being JLC (Colors Critique of Haynesworth Deal with Nonsense)

A $100 Million Gamble? - Redskins Insider

He raises some valid, if not obvious points, but seriously dude, let the cat have his presser before you're annointing him the next FA bust and complaining about the 45 employees laid off. It sucks for them, no doubt-I'm in the same boat with them, but 4 other teams have had lay-offs as well. It's completely different sides of the business.

JLC was on First Take this morning and when the question was, does this put Zorn on the hot seat he said no, it puts Vinny on the hot seat and spent 2 minutes railing against VC. He's so clearly got an axe to grind but I'm tired of reading about it in every article he writes about the team.

The comment about the employees was a low, irrelevant, and uneccesary blow by JLC

Also, I didn't realize that the Jason Taylor "experiment" was over or that the talent around Haynesworth ($100 million!) was better in Tennesee than he'll have here in DC. I'm sure Landry, Horton, Rogers, Hall, Griffin, Carter, Taylor, and Fletcher are thrilled to hear that.

I think he's just upset that he totally missed the boat on this news

VC is on the hot seat if we don't win this year. It is a gamble to put $100 million dollars on a D tackle. They are in the trenches and get hurt frequently. 2 weeks out...4 weeks out..common occurences in the trenches. So no doubt this is a major gamble. I hope it works out. Haynesworth should make everyone better.

What a douche JLC is. I agree with SS - the employee layoff comment was totally lame. It's pretty obvious how annoyed he is.

Especially after how adamant he was about the Redskins not having the cap space for him.

A quick note on cap space since he consistently talks about the Redskins having the 'worst cap in the league', among the teams that had less cap space than us as of Friday morning from Adam Schefter:

LEAST
Carolina — $1.9 million
New England — $3.2 million
Indianapolis — $6.6 million
Pittsburgh — $7.4 million
Washington — $8.1 million

Also, where is he getting this "LaVar Arrington experiment didn't work" stuff? He wasn't an experiment. He was one of the best defensive players I've ever seen in college football, and we drafted the guy. Sure injuries derailed him, and he had his issues with the front office, but he had some solid years here (and a few pro-bowls) despite playing on a lot of lousy teams.

Funny how (for the sake of his argument) he conveniently doesn't even mention the distinct possibility of an uncapped year in 2010 and beyond.

JLC is a bitter, sniveling little jerk.

You hit the nail on the head with both points. 48 hours ago JLC was all but swearing on a bible that we couldnt get Haynesworth and now he's here. JLC has a egg all over his face and hes pissed. He's always negative about everything skins-related. I don't mind negativity, and the skins certainly deserve alot of it - but JLC goes out of his way to take shots at them and its ruined his credibility with me.

I'm not necessarily a huge fan of this move, but he was the best FA on the market by a mile, and has the potential to dramatically improve our entire defense. It seems like we took an unacceptable risk here, but i dont know the contract details and i dont know exactly whats going to happen with the CBA, so i'll reserve judgement for now.

For someone wanting a positive take on the signing, here ya go:

Jeffri Chadiha analyzes Albert Haynesworth's signing - ESPN

Quote:
...If you think that's a reach, just consider that Tennessee was 22-7 the past two seasons (including postseason games) when Haynesworth was on the field and 1-4 when he wasn't. You also can look at his production during that time -- he amassed 14½ sacks in 27 regular-season games, an impressive number for an interior player -- and see how vital he was to a Titans defense that ranked near the top of the NFL in most statistical categories. Haynesworth's ability to consistently beat double-teams made it nearly impossible to run inside on the Titans. His improved pass-rushing skills made it just as easy for his other teammates to pressure quarterbacks...

...Haynesworth became a changed man after that suspension. He attended counseling and surely realized he was throwing away a promising career. As much as people claim he became a Pro Bowl player when he was entering the final year of his rookie contract in 2007, it's safe to assume Haynesworth's improvement had just as much to do with something else: his ability to grow up in a hurry...

...So when you start to evaluate the Redskins' decision to pay Haynesworth mind-boggling money, please be sure to view all the dimensions involved in this deal. This isn't merely another example of Snyder's spending money as if he's a first-year college student armed with his daddy's credit card. The Redskins basically did what they had to do to improve a team that desperately needed defensive line help. And right now the smart money says that Haynesworth is more than ready to give that franchise ample return on its investment.

Just out of curiosity does anyone know what happens to us next year without a CBA?

2010 will be uncapped we can do whatever we want with contracts pretty much. It may cost us big time $$ (not like Snyder cares), but we will have no cap to worry about. Given the $155M in contracts we just doled out and the 4 or 5 guys who restructured this week, I think it's safe to say we're pretty much banking on an uncapped season in 2010.

So it's more of a financial problem then a cap problem without a new CBA? Because I keep on thinking that all these bonuses being spread out will be moved to our 2009 cap and as a result there will be no way we can afford that in terms of cap space.

Ugh, why does JLC does this? One thing is constructive criticism, but another is this petty crap. Also on the Sports Reporters they tend to do the same thing sometimes...man I miss Riggo and his crew.

So you wouldn't be pissed at the bench warmer that makes a 6-figure salary?

From a total football perspective (which what JLC is supposed to be reporting from) the employees that were laid off have nothing to do with the signing. It was a unecessary low-blow. JLC is a total douche.
