Re: Willis picks Seahawks over SKINS
I feel like LB might just end up being a weakness for the D. We managed to cover it up a bit last year, so with AH maybe we can cover it up again. RT has to addressed via the draft either with #13 or in round 3 if the top 4 are gone. DE can be a rotation and the 3rd rounder (if we get an OT in 1). It can also be #13 if the to 4 are gone. Seems like the way we are heading.

Cobra - one update that has some impact on Barnes - the Jaguars just signed Tra Thomas to a deal so they will not retain Barnes. I don't know if the Eagles were ever interested in Barnes, but if they are not I would think the Tra Thomas signing weakens the amount of money Barnes can ask for with the Jags out of the running..... I think I'm intrigued because he really was a physical specimen coming out of college and I think all he needs is coaching up and a move to the right side. NOT for LT money but I think he would be an above average RT if Buges got his hands on him. And he is only 27 years old. And don't forget he blocked for both Fred Taylor and MJD. I know he's not great on an island pass protecting the blind side but he won't have to do that on the right. Still I don't think we have much interest there. I think we're banking on the draft (which isn't necessarily a bad thing). |

I find it funny that last week we heard both Willis and Barnes were coming to the Skins for interviews. Then this morning I read that a Redskin official said no Barnes was not brought in over the weekend and no FA's have been scheduled to meet with them. Then by afternoon I read Barnes had an oppointment with the Skins today. What gives? Did he, Does he, or Does he not? |

Re: Willis picks Seahawks over SKINS
Sorry I guess I'm getting Barnes and Brown mixed up. Although Barnes was turned down by the Raiders cause they can't or won't pay what he wants.
RAIDERS EXIT KHALIF BARNES CHASE FOR GOOD Posted by Mike Florio on March 9, 2009, 5:14 p.m. After remaining a long-shot possible destination for Jaguars free-agent tackle Khalif Barnes, the Oakland Raiders have decided to call it quits. According to RaiderBeat.com, the team no longer is interested in signing Barnes. Multiple reports last week linked the former University of Washington lineman to Oakland. His agent, Kenny Zuckerman, has said that unnamed teams are interested in him, but Zuckerman has not identified any of the other supposedly interested teams. Re: Willis picks Seahawks over SKINS
This is per news on main page under "Confirmed no Willis or Brown for Skins.":
Cerrato also denied a report that Arizona Cardinals offensive lineman Elton Brown visited the Redskins last week. Cerrato said that as of now, no free agents are scheduled to visit this week. - David Elfin |

Re: Willis picks Seahawks over SKINS
I think all of them would have been of value to us (not saying we should have signed all three, just that each one of them could have helped). Willis and Barnes could have both stepped in and most likely started at RT. Brown would be good young depth and he can play guard and tackle.

Re: Willis picks Seahawks over SKINS
I doubt we sign Barnes or any other OT before the draft. If one of the top 4 falls to us then Barnes is useless... if none of them fall to us I think there will be some "new" talent on the market then... like Levi Jones. Who knows maybe Barnes will still be available and we'll have some talent to choose from.
To all the doubters... we're gonna be ok. We'll have a nice roster by the time OTA's start and undoubtedly more depth on both lines than we've had in at least a few years. Hail!

Re: Willis picks Seahawks over SKINS
I see what you're saying. But after this year Jansen is gone. And if Heyer doesn't pan out we are not gonna resign him. Im not necessarily saying that we NEED to get Barnes. Just that we do need to start considering the future. Samuels might be on the books but if his play drops off a la Jansen, then we need to do something and I thought it would be nice to have people who could step in pretty seamlessly. Anyways, I am in the majority in that I do not want a sequel to last year where we just didn't have the depth to continue.
My rant is officially over |
