Grading the 2006 Draft

With the draft around the corner, and no major news likely soon, I thought we could discuss the few draft classes that, following the 2-3 yr development rule, that we ought to be able to grade out now.
Here is our draft from the 2006 class .

# Year Rd Overall Player Pos
1 2006 2 35 Rocky McIntosh LB
2 2006 5 153 Anthony Montgomery NT
3 2006 6 173 Reed Doughty DB
4 2006 6 196 Kedric Golston DT
5 2006 7 230 Kili Lefotu G
6 2006 7 250 Kevin Simon LB

I think I would give it a B+, or A-, given that we had only 1 first day pick, it looks like we got 3 solid players, McIntosh, Montgomery, and Golston, and 1 mid grade in Reed Doughty. I remember Lefotu, but nothing about Simon. What does every one else think?

Re: Grading the 2006 Draft

Better than expected, given the picks we didn't have that year (thanks, BLloyd). Still, we didn't fill a bunch of needs that we currently have now, and it cost us a 2nd round pick in 07 to get McIntosh, who absolutely hasn't been ready to this point.

I give it a solid C.

I give it a c-. Giving up the extra pick for Rocky was just stupid. But Monty and Goldston have been very solid.

Even though I wasn't really looking at the FO moves, certainly it fits under the topic. So the FO gets a C- for costing us a 2007 pick, but the I think getting 4 productive players out of what picks we had gives them plus points.

Re: Grading the 2006 Draft

2004
1. Sean Taylor, S, Miami - 5th overall
3. Chris Cooley, TE, Utah State - 81st overall
5. Mark Wilson, OT, California - 151st overall
6. Jim Molinaro, OT, Notre Dame - 180th overall

If you give 2006 an A-, what would you give this?

Re: Grading the 2006 Draft

I give it a C, because rocky has been a starter, and gholston &/or Montgomery switch off starting, Simon and lefotu r obviously not with us so that's to wasted picks (not exactly sure who would have been availible to us around that time whose good now), doughty is special teams only, and it really sounds like the skins didnt want him back, even though they resigned him, expect him to be cut, rocky has also had some injuries and considering we could of traded him for Briggs, I still would of done that, even with us keeping him we still should have gotten Briggs...so yeah this is all y I give the draft a C.

I give it an A+. To get three potential starters out of any draft is incredible. To get them out of the fifth and six round is amazing. Look at Pittsburgs drafts and they average two players kept starting per draft over five years.

If that draft was so great why did we need to sign a major free agent in Haynesworth to provide support in the middle?

This draft was subpar just based on the lack of top round picks. I don't think that Monty and Golston could make the roster of some of leagues top defenses.

Scouts knew that Rocky had that bad degenerative condition in his knees. We still picked him any way. His career should be taking off right now but he's being held back by nagging injuries.

Not that great of a draft. The only draft I'll like is one where we have all of our own picks.

We are one of the leagues top defenses. We have a maniac owner that will do anything to win. We went after the best DT in football, he would start on any team in the league. If I am wrong, name the team.

Well, lets see, using the apparent criteria of having all our draft picks (not whether they are playing or not) obviously this was lousy as we only have four picks. Must be an E.
Now if you look at quality of the pick relative to where they were picked, and the growth they have(had) shown, I would say solid A to A+.

Re: Grading the 2006 Draft

How do you factor Jason Campbell into the 2006 draft? He cost us the 1st rounder that year (plus a 4th that the Broncos used to get Brandon Marshall) so do you factor him in to 2006?

I personally was only talking about how the players we selected have progressed for having 2 seasons under their belt. I would put him in to the 2005 class because that is when he was drafted.

Re: Grading the 2006 Draft

Taking into consideration what picks we had, I'd give it a B, and if Monty steps up and plays like he's capable of, I'd change that to an A.

Re: Grading the 2006 Draft

What a terrible waste of a draft for the whole division.
