Dvr
Does anyone know how to download the shows on a DVR device to your computer. Comcast says it can't be done and that the stored shows can't be accessed online. I am wondering if that is just the company line. It would be easier to store them on my comp and burn them to a DVD then to tape the shows I want to save by VHS.
I have seen some things on the internet indicating that it could be done with a firewire (one site had drivers to do so for my model number DVR). I am wondering if anyone has actually done so and how. One problem is that my comp does not have a firewire outlet. I tried doing it via an ethernet Cat 6 cable but was unable to do so. I couldn't find anything indicating that to do so by ethernet was possible but thought I'd give it a shot. I figure if I can find a laptop to borrow from a neighbor, maybe I can download them to the laptop and then copy them to my PC to burn at my leisure. Any suggestions?

Re: Dvr
Oh I am sure it can be done. Whether you end up destroying the DVR or at least moding it enough to have to pay for it is the question.

ExtremeMhz.com-Extreme Guide: Build the Perfect HTPC
Check this out, it's older but it worked for me the first HTPC I built.

Re: Dvr
^^ Yah, that looks like what I have seen - I have the motorola cable box shown. Unfortunately, I don't have a 6 point firewire port. I actually already downloaded the driver but can't use it.
Just wondering if anyone has actually had any success with such a transfer.

Re: Dvr
Depending on how old your PC is, and whether your mobo can handle it:
Newegg.com - Koutech KW-F7771-B FireWire 1394a + USB 2.0 Combo Internal Front Bay Connector Module - Controller Panels or if you have an open PCI slot: Newegg.com - SYBA IEEE 1394 4 ports Lucent FireWire PCI Card With Ulead Software Model SD-LUC-4F - Add-On Cards A HTPC will be my next project...when I get the spare funds.
