Matty:

Your memory is correct; the 49ers wanted to interview him. That is a far cry from his being offered multiple HC jobs that he turned down.

True, but if his defense finishes in the top 5 again next year with the losses of Pierce and probably Smoot, I think there will be a few more phone calls headed in Williams' direction.

Bottom line is it's only a matter of time before he becomes a HC again, I'm not sure he's a lock to succeed Gibbs like some people here say.

If Gibbs lives up to his end of the bargain and coaches his full 5 years (I think chances are good he will), I can't see Williams waiting around that long.

Re: Greg Williams: Catch-22?

SC-
One of the reasons Williams got a lot of mentions for jobs (and not interviews) was that he instructed his agent to inform the Niners and (I think) the Browns he was not interested. If I were compiling a list after that was made public, his would not be my first name on paper.

The pundits were thrilled with his performance as a DC, but they don't do any hiring. Few coaches get offered multiple HC jobs, fewer still with career losing records. It only takes one good offer, though.

SC - I was saying that after 5 years with what hopefully turn out to be solid coaches and reasonable spending we wouldn't be a sh*thole call it undying optimism... or something.

SC...do you hate the Skins? I mean all you ever do is bad mouth the team. This is a fan site. A fan SUPPORTS his team even when they know they have deficiencies. They don't sit around and bitch and moan about everything..

Grandpa Simpson likes to, as he puts it, "keep it real" for the rest of us...but I'm starting to think that he's really John Kent Cooke and he's upset that he's not the owner of the team
