Re: Andy Reid names Michael Vick as team's starting quarterback

But with Vick in the final year on a backup's salary, there certainly is some idea here for Reid that Vick is the guy long term. To the point where he's willing to possibly never see what he had in Kolb. All of this is just very sudden and surprising. I'm not sure he's wrong, either. It just seems like, in the wake of the McNabb decision, the Eagles have completely 180'ed the direction of their organization. Historically, the Eagles have been so stable that this decision doesn't strike me as anything but surprising. The Raiders? Yeah, you'd expect this. Not the Eagles.

Even if Vick does play at a much improved level, it seems impossible to think he would suddenly turn into a guy who doesn't miss any time. Even the Falcons had a developing Schaub behind him. What kind of return would Kolb have to bring to make him worth giving up? Something like McNabb brought, at least, I would think. And who would do that in the same year that McNabb set the market?

Do you think this was really Reid's call? I'm kinda thinking it wasn't. Along the lines of dealing away #5. |

Re: Andy Reid names Michael Vick as team's starting quarterback
I'll bet Kolb will garner the interest of quite a few teams.
Minny, for one, as Favre may be gone. It would be hilarious to see Childress's draft love(Tarvaris) vs. Fat Andy's. Oakland...just because... Bills... but Ralph Wilson is a little flakey. Carolina...Just in case Arizona...Derek Anderson is not a long-term answer Browns...longshot according to my intuition. Jacksonville: David Garrard, hmm, yes, David Garrard. Who is he again?

Re: Andy Reid names Michael Vick as team's starting quarterback
If Kolb gets traded, Kolb will feel like that average-looking chick who thought she found a character guy(she's known him for many years) to marry only to find out he's been banging a hot girl the week before they are wed.
THE ABOVE STATEMENT DOES NOT APPLY IF REID IS NOT TRYING TO TRADE HIM.

Re: Andy Reid names Michael Vick as team's starting quarterback
I think the call came from upstairs and has less to do about winning games and more about ticket sales and Vick jerseys.
Vick's is one of the top-selling jerseys, after all. He is an exciting player. I don't think he's a very good quarterback, but he is an amazing athlete and the Eagles could win with him under center. They'd have to retool their offense more to his skill-set. I don't think the West Coast offense fits what he's capable of, since it relies on quick decision-making and quick, accurate passes. He's not very accurate. The local sports talk has been nuts over this, which seems odd since this is 'Skins territory. It's about split in opinion as to whether this is a good idea. Most of those supporting Vick as the starter tend to ignore that he's not a very accurate passer or they excuse his low completion percentage by claiming he didn't have anybody to throw to in Atlanta. But every receiver in Atlanta that Vick had, put up better numbers with Schaub and Ryan throwing to them, with the Schaub numbers coming while Vick was still on the team. IOW, the receivers didn't get better, the passing did. So, if you're going to win with Vick, it won't be his arm that does it. At least not consistently. Kolb's career numbers, albeit a small sample, aren't bad. He's the first QB in the history of the NFL to throw for over 300 yards in his first two starts. But the comparison isn't really who is the better QB over a career, or even who is going to be the better QB. It's who has a better chance of leading the Eagles to success now. That might well be Vick, given that the Eagles lost their center in Week 1 and an All Pro fullback this past week. The Eagles QB - whoever it is - is going to have to do a lot of running. And that's right in Vick's wheelhouse. |

Re: Andy Reid names Michael Vick as team's starting quarterback
Kolb tossed his 300+ yard games against New Orleans and Kansas City, defenses that were soft against the pass.
Eagles' O-line is in shambles. Vick helps them out because the rushers won't go hyper-aggressive on him.

It was obvious the decision came from above reid since the decision to start Vick came so quickly.

Re: Andy Reid names Michael Vick as team's starting quarterback
Who woulda thunk the McNabb trade would open the door for Michael the Vick Experience?
I have no clue on how our d is going to contain him next week. None at all. |

Andy Reid caught lightning in a bottle. Vick is playing like a top-5 QB. I dread facing him with our pathetic D.
