Re: Redskins Have An All-Time Record In Their Sights
Except for the fact that since last spring the Skins have been saying they'd be showing various 4 fronts, including 4-man fronts

That's what they said, but that's not what they did initially.

They've been showing 4 man fronts since the season opener

Re: Redskins Have An All-Time Record In Their Sights
Nickel and Dime packages has been almost entirely a four man front. Well, an "even" front with no nose, at least.
Where we've been a 3-4 defense is in base sets. If the opponent has 2 WRs or fewer on the field, we usually have 3 linemen in the game. A couple of changes just recently: our short yardage defense has moved to a four man concept on the line ((Haynesworth/Carriker) with (Golston/Kemo)), where before it was either a standard 3-4 or that ninja/amoeba type look. This, not surprisingly, has coincided with an improvement in short yardage defense. The reason for this "multiple" defense: it allows us to have 3-4 LBs in the game at all times. The 4-3 would force us to take a LB off the field for every additional DB we wanted on. If we wanted to play dime with Buchanon/Doughty at DBs, it'd be just Fletcher at LB. This way, we can get Fletcher, McIntosh, and Alexander all on the field (plus Carter in the nickel), and have our best pass rushers to get after the quarterback. We have good nickel personnel this year, mostly because Buchanon has been a pleasant surprise at corner.

Second why are so many skins fans haters? Be happy. We may allow a lot of yards but what matters is points.

No one said we were the best.
We are improving. We have improved. Crying about stat sheets is not gonna help anything. Ok Sir?

Re: Redskins Have An All-Time Record In Their Sights
I guess it's also worth noting, as Slingin Sammy somewhat alluded to, we've given up the least amount of points in the NFC East and are in the middle of pack in the NFL, in terms of total points allowed. The San Diego Chargers, on the other hand, are ranked 1# in total defense, yet they sit at 2-5 right now.
So while the stats are a bit troubling, they don't really tell the whole story. |

But for those keeping track, barely a third of their turnovers have been Rivers interceptions. It's their offensive line that is responsible for increased sack-fumbles, and receivers are just coughing up footballs at an alarming rate in San Diego. Put simply, while SD is much better than their record, anyone who thinks SD is the best offense in football is using the wrong stats. They're not as good on offense as they were last season.

Re: Redskins Have An All-Time Record In Their Sights
If it's week eight then why are we only using stats from the first 6 weeks. Oh, that's right because it will dilute the stats.
How is this for a stat? Through those first 6 weeks our D face a top 10 offense 4 times. The other 2 matchups were against number 11 and number 22. We haven't exactly been playing teams that cannot move the ball. |
