Redskins: Trade Deadline Buyers or Sellers?

Jason La Canfora says we should be sellers. What do you think?

"From everything I've heard, owner Dan Snyder isn't in sell mode (when is he?) and dumping any veterans is unlikely, but with them paying DeSean Jackson big money already and having to pay tight end Jordan Reed big money if he can stay healthy, and them unsorted at the quarterback position, and depleted of so many picks the last few years from the RG3 trade, I'd see if Cleveland or Seattle or San Francisco or New England or Kansas City or whomever had an interest in Pierre Garcon.

Pierre Garcon won't finish anywhere close to matching the 113 catches he had in 2013. He has a $7.1M base, and his guarantees are paid, making it a team-friendly pay-as-you-go situation ($7.1M base salaries each of the next two years). This team has so many holes on defense and along the offensive line, it doesn't make sense to have so many assets sunk into the receiving corps. Garcon's yards per reception is way down and could have some decent value on the open market. And maybe you can get a sixth-round pick for Santana Moss (making the $955,000 veteran minimum), who could play the slot for a needy team, but doesn't see the field much at all in Washington."

I just dont think giving up Garcon for a 4th round pick makes any sense especially if the remaining deal is cap friendly. Thats a loss for us and a big mistake. No way for trading Garcon unless a way we can get a decent 2nd round pick.

Moss should be given a chance to play on a winner, Id send him for a 6th or 7th round pick.

Re: Redskins: Trade Deadline Buyers or Sellers?

If the pick coming back in return doesn't put us in position to acquire an impactful offensive lineman or player in the secondary then the trade isn't helpful in my eyes. We could also use pass rusher given that you can't count on Orakpo being that guy, and certainly can't pay him.

Ugh so many holes.

But if I can't get a top pick back then I might as well hang onto the players I have. 4th rounders don't do it for me. I'm not interested in making a trade that's going to create a hole (losing Garcon) and not be able to fill one adequately.

Nobody makes trades in the NFL that matter. They're all salary dumps or malcontents. There is virtually no trade that any team is going to be willing to make that could be of much benefit to us.

JLa...being useless since 2005.

This. NFL isn't like the other leagues, where you can just stick guys in and get an immediate impact. Anybody worth getting still requires time to learn the playbook.

JLC mentioned having to pay Jordan Reed. We don't have to do that for at least two years and maybe never.

JLC is a f*cking moron...why is he even mentioning Reed's contract? Dude needs to prove he can stay on the field period. JLC is in the long line of dipshit media

I hope I'm wrong but I can see Reed becoming the next Orakpo on offense

Re: Redskins: Trade Deadline Buyers or Sellers?

If someone wants to cherry pick some guys, fine. Given the number of holes we have, however, any player that would be of interest to anyone else is simply worth more to us than to some prospective team.

Garcon, for example, is probably a 3rd or 4th round pick to others, but to us is substantially more valuable. Without Garcon, who do we have opposite Jackson that gives us something near to what Garcon does? Trade Garcon, and we need to draft a replacement and, unless we get a 1 or 2, no one is coming in next year to replace him.

Really, now that KC has tanked his trade value, I just don't see anyone tradable that gets us anything of value. Maybe someone is interested in one of 2nd teamers for a 6th or 7th. Okay, I mean - if someone wants to give us a 6ht for LeRib. A. Robinsion, L.Hankerson, Jenkis, Riley - take it and run.

Not a lot of guys that I see developing outside Grant, Long, Malone (and hopefully P. Thomas).

Looking at him, listening to his reporting, and reading is commentary, the guy just screams "douche" with every word uttered or written.

He's like a blander, dumber version of S. Salisbury.

He's Chris Berman without the name recognition and over-the-top recaps.

He's John Clayton minus the charm, intelligence and personality.

He's Ron Jaworski without the film study or insight.

He's an ugly Adam Schefter without the connections.

He's a reporter with lousy reporting skills.

He's an insider with week-old "insider" information.

He's an analyst with no analytic ability.

He's a TV personality with no personality other than "douchebag."

How the hell does he stay employed??

Re: Redskins: Trade Deadline Buyers or Sellers?

Considering nobody wanted to trade with Philly for DJ to begin with, I doubt he'll draw any suitors now. That said, this whole discussion is asinine. Leave it to JLC for crap like this. I suppose if you sling enough shit at the wall, something is basically going to stick.

This is the only trade piece we have that MIGHT be worth something. Very likely we couldn't get much though. We'd have to get a 3rd to make it worth it by basic league standards and it would need to be a good third. Not likely. Everyone's players are worth more to themselves than anyone else.

Re: Redskins: Trade Deadline Buyers or Sellers?

The idea of moving Garcon is silly -- he comes ready to go week in and week out, great with YAC, etc. I think he's one of the best FA additions in recent years, and I don't know why we'd revisit that.

We are deep at WR and so I would rather they try to move someone like Aldrick Robinson. He's basically a burner, but we now have DJax and so Robinson seems expendable. I'd hate to see Moss go as he's one of my favorites, but with Hankerson coming back soon, I imagine that he'll go back to inactive. Gruden has said good things about his leadership, so my guess is that he's more likely to stay than Robinson.

I also think the idea of moving Alfmo is a bad one. You don't move a guy who is #2 in the league in rushing the last two years and even though is having a down year is still on pace for over 1000 yards (although just barely). I don't think we have a proven every down back on the roster other than Alfmo, and you simply have to have one of those.

And while I'd love to see us pick up some help for this season (and we need it at OLB, O line, and safety), I have real doubts as to whether any quality player would be able to come in now and produce for us.
