Knowledge is key....I can name a list of players who became coordinators. Dennis Thurman, Todd Bowles, Ritchie Petibon, Jack Pardee, Dan Reeves, Don Shula, Mike Ditka. London Fletcher would make a very good defensive coordinator....

Some excerpts:

"Joe Gibbs was mad. Sputtering mad. Red-faced mad. Punch-the-wall mad. The subject was Philadelphia Eagles Coach Buddy Ryan, and the more Gibbs talked about him, the madder he got. The words came in angry bursts, as if Gibbs were ready to deck the questioner, as if he hoped that Ryan would feel the punch in Philadelphia."

"I live to play a game like this one," Gibbs said. "I live to play this guy."

"If you lose this game, Buddy Ryan is going to call you a bunch of fat asses like he did last time. If you don't mind being called a bunch of fat asses, that's your business."

"That very day, Ryan had joked about how uptight Gibbs probably was, while he, Ryan, was loose and confident, knowing that he had a Super Bowl contender. Indeed, to help prepare for the Redskins, Ryan had taken his Eagles to Tampa, the site of Super Bowl XXVI, for a week of practice. "We plan to be back here," he said with a smile."

"When the Redskins filed off their bus outside the Vet for that playoff game on January 4, 1991, they were stone-faced and determined. Gibbs had injected a Notre Dame-Miami hatred into them — and on the Redskins' first play from scrimmage, he was amazed by what he saw. "The line of scrimmage just exploded," Gibbs said later. "Our guys knocked Philadelphia about seven yards back.""

NO RYANS IN DC!

I'm with Joe, not a fan of the over rated Ryans.

Everyone's been calling for Rex but we don't need anymore drama here.

What does Gibbs have to do with Rex Ryan? I think sometimes we get a lil bit too much nostaligic with the glory days. Rex is his own man. Of course it would be a longest of long shots of just settling for the DC job here, but he is a well established strong defensive minded coach.

Jim Tomsula? He's been in San Fran a few years now, and it could be the right time for him to leave what with the Harbaugh situation playing out the way it is. He's also 100% as a HC if it counts for anything!

Ken Norton Jnr would be my other consideration.

If Harbaugh goes to Michigan, then I think we should raid the 49ers for Vic Fangio.

Unfortunately Snyder botched that and he went in another direction.

Snyder stabbed him in the back. no way he comes back.

Apparently Tomsula's got the early lead to take over as HC if/when Harbaugh leaves San Francisco

Nothing, Rex and Joe Gibbs have actually spent a lot of time together. And Gibbs had no problem hiring a key Buddy disciple in Gregg Williams

I'd take Rex as head coach over any of the previous head coaches we've had (sans Gibbs) 7 out of 7 days. But he won't waste his time here as a def coordinator

have there been any complaints from any coaches about Rex Ryan ever telling his players to play dirty?

Re: New Defensive Coordinator 2015

As much as I hated Buddy Ryan, he was great for the NFL during his time. I think a lot of people forget that he had some of the best defenses the NFL has ever seen when he was w/ Philadelphia. And we all know about the 85 Bears.
