Re: Who To Keep

My nephew Tyler once sacked Kirk Cousins in a high school game.
Tyler is a known slacker.
What does that say about Cousins?
Hmmmm?

Re: Who To Keep

For the first time in a long time I'm putting 110% trust in the front office as far as who goes or who stays. If Griffin goes, so be it. If Garcon or Jackson goes, again so be it.

I guess with a talent savant on hand we will be able to, at least most of us, find peace with whatever the truth is about RG3 and his potential. Of course SM could get the call wrong, but I'd at least feel better about that knowing that it was a proven talent evaluator and not Danny or Bruce or Gruden for that matter that made the decision.

Honestly, assuming they hold on to RG3, the SM signing could be the best thing that could've happened for him. Presumably, this means we are going to build this team slowly, develop our O-line finally, and not chase after any big name QB savior. Griffin might actually get the time he needs to develop, and Gruden might feel less pressure to give up on him so that he can win now and keep his job.

That actually brings me to another thought. It will be interesting to see how Gruden responds. I mean, you'd have to think he'd be elated. A young talented coach can become a legend with the right GM (Joe Gibbs). That said, he seemed to be very opinionated about talent, and he seemed a bit impatient in his first year. I hope he will buy in to the rebuilding process, and tend to think he will, but crazier shit has happened in this organization, and it would suck to have to bring in a new HC in the next couple of years as we are trying to gel the pieces that SM brings in.

Apparently the two both have high opinions of Cousins. Ultimately, if that's true, I think RG3 probably needs to go. A long drawn out QB controversy can hurt a team even with talent and depth. Griffin may be professional, but I really doubt he can humble himself enough to be number 2, and obviously he has caused some distraction in the locker room before (directly and/or indirectly) So, if everyone is on the same page with Cousins, then great, you can focus on putting a line in front of him and teaching him to choose his targets better. And you can see what you can get for Griffin, and shit, if all it is is a 4th rounder, if there is anyone that could make a pick that salvages the train wreck RG3 deal it would be SM right?

I totally agree in concept however jettisoning these WRs in particular wouldn't make sense unless McCloughan was looking for a giant free agent spending spree. And that has never been his style.

We will not be so hurting for cap space that we need to consider getting rid of our WRs to make way for other free agent additions. We will have about $20M in space available. So the only way McCloughan would get rid of Garcon or Jackson is if he thought they sucked.

Based on my eye test I cannot possibly fathom him coming to that conclusion.

Re: Who To Keep

On RG3, the contract is guaranteed. So trade is a possibility I suppose. But definitely not cutting him.

I'm sure McC will back Gruden's call to have a QB competition this offseason. I expect Cousins to win it but RG3 to remain as a backup until he departs as a free agent.
