Per Scot: “I can promise you this: after getting through free agency and getting through the draft, we’ll be a better roster next year, no matter what.”
This is what I wanted to hear from our new GM. Good luck, Scot! I'm holding you to your promise.

Re: A New Day: Scot McCloughan GM Thread Part 2
BTW, who is ultimately responsible for handling the salary cap? I would think it would be Scot, since he 's putting the roster together but this is the Redskins and what they do doesn't always make sense. Does anyone here know?

I think Allen does based on an espn 980 interview, which has me nervous. That, in some marginal way, gives him control over the roster and roster moves.

A guy named Eric Schaefer I believe is the cap and contract guy for the Redskins.

Re: A New Day: Scot McCloughan GM Thread Part 2
“Now he has a new coordinator, he has a new offense he has to learn, especially with Jay’s offense,” said McCloughan. “I remember with [Mike] Holmgren it took Brett Favre two years to figure it out. With Robert, mentally he’s ahead of Favre from the standpoint of picking up schemes and understanding what the offense is trying to do.”
Just read this quote and it makes me start to think, that he liked Griffin and will extend him, I assume that means good bye to Cousins. |

Re: A New Day: Scot McCloughan GM Thread Part 2
For me, the big thing is the potential change in structure. Have a football guy pick the players. Odd concept...
It will take time, no doubt, but there are ways to monitor progress beyond wins and losses. We could see that the team was not improving this year--that's what made it so awful. Pick some good folk, get a good locker room and culture and move ahead. Look for players who do not quit even in losses, improve in the trenches on both sides of the ball, and evaluate RGIII over the season. I'd like to see them trade back in the draft if the can, to maximize the number of picks. I do hope McC cleans house after the draft and FA--time to clear out the figgin dead wood there. He mentioned that he liked that some of the scouts are young, so he can mold them. That's fine. But the old guard must go. My lingering fear: Danny will meddle, or McC will have personal troubles and have to step down. Will Danny stick with the structure, even if McC isn't the answer? We can only hope...

Re: A New Day: Scot McCloughan GM Thread Part 2
I'm not expecting much from the Redskins in 2015. If McCloughan can retool the roster enough to where the team can finish 7-9, 8-8, or perhaps 9-7 then it will be a clue or a sign that the Redskins are headed in the right direction.....
