where did i say they wouldn't do that on SOME running downs? they're just not going to pull him every 1st down or every running down (too much of a tell, and reed is a distraction in the same kind of way as DJ on certain calls). they'll probably run a lot of two TE too (well, they did that last year, but compton was pretty pathetic).

nice link, looks like he's much better on the backside or against smaller guys. gets in the way, stays engaged, but doesn't really drive people back.

Not many in the NFL bring the pancake more than occasionally. If they do, they're the monster Trent Williams type of lineman. Tight ends rarely put a DE or OLB on their backs. All you can ask for is that he keeps the defender from getting off the block.

Good footwork, stays in position, maintains leverage. Sound fundamentals, and enough quicks to beat his guy to the spot.

Portis used to pancake guys occasionally. Man, I miss seeing that.

Agree about Vernon Davis. I see little downside here -- 2 TE sets with Davis and Jordan will present some matchup nightmares for defenses. I have a feeling this makes Carrier expendable and maybe even Paulsen as well, although with no FB on the roster, perhaps we keep 4.

Niles Paul: Doctor told me ankle injury was 'worst he's ever seen' - Washington Redskins Blog- ESPN

That’s obviously a good sign for the Washington Redskins, who had a tough time keeping their tight ends healthy last season (with the exception of Jordan Reed). But this is one reason why they wanted to sign veteran Vernon Davis. The Redskins need insurance in case their depth is again tested, or if Paul’s complete recovery takes a longer time.

This offseason, there was some concern about when Paul would be able to complete his comeback. At the owners meetings, coach Jay Gruden said Paul likely would be out until training camp.

Keim talking about Paul and his health issues.

Keim with a quite timely piece there. I feel like Niles coming back strong would be such a rallying point for the team. He is beloved in the locker room. Pulling for him so greatly.

Ppl will sleep on Paul voming back 100% as the "backup" TE but they will be in for what most of us think, is a right old surprise. He always contributed alot in all areas of his game and i expect the same... he'll be alot better than some of the other, while servicable, shady back up and starting te's we had last year

But Paul's value on offense and teams was his speed. If he's not 100%, he isn't much good to us.

Doubt seriously he will be anywhere close to 100 percent for what the team envisions his role to be.

Before he was hurt he gained 25 to 30 lean pounds of muscle and was strong as a bear according to all the reports coming out of the 2015 camp. The team was hoping he would be a true duel threat TE, and he was on pace to become one.

He won't be able to maintain that level of lean mass and strength during the type of rehab he is, and has been undergoing.

More likely than not, he won't come into camp nearly as big, lean, or strong as he was last year.

He has the "want to" though, he is a dog. I'm a big fan and am also pulling for him to succeed.

When I hear a top notch Doctor say "worst I've ever seen", that's a concern. Gruden and McC understand it as well. Sounds like 50/50 ready for the season.

Heard the 49ers are interested in trading Antoine Bethea.

I would be all for that.
