Re: NFL Free Agency 2016
The Panthers rescind the franchise tag for CB Josh Norman, immediately making him a free agent. The #49ers have $52.6 million in cap space.

Re: NFL Free Agency 2016
He can go there and lose. And lose bad. He seems like the type that will go into full bitch mode when San Fran has double digit loses next year.

Re: NFL Free Agency 2016
He wants the $$$ to him that's important than winning, otherwise he stays with Carolina.

Re: NFL Free Agency 2016
When a SB team flat out cuts its top corner, there is something else going on.
Guy could be a multi-set-for-life-millionaire on a consistent winner or a make a couple extra million on a perennial loser. Whatever dude. I choose rich and winning over a little bit richer and losing.

Re: NFL Free Agency 2016
maybe there's some off the field stuff, like how we moved on from champ bailey. still weird that they couldn't at least get a trade or something though.

First, just because the team who cuts a player thinks something is going on, doesn't mean there's a problem with bringing the player on board. The Eagles thought DeSean Jackson was somehow into the gang life, at least that's what they leaked to the papers. Maybe he was, maybe he wasn't. Or maybe he was just a pain in Kelly's ass. Either way, he hasn't been a problem for us. Second, it's not a black-and-white, either-or choice between taking less on a consistent winner like Carolina or taking a couple extra million on a perennial loser. Why couldn't it be that he gets the money he's seeking on a team that's close? Or at least currently competitive? Don't assume San Fran is his ultimate destination. There are a few positions in the NFL where if you have a premium player, he's practically invaluable. Lockdown cover corner is one of them. You don't just find these guys on the street, they almost NEVER make it to free agency. You either need to draft them high and hope it works out, or get butt ass lucky like with Sherman and Norman in the middle rounds. Carolina has made an immense mistake here. Cam Newton is not so good that he can make up for a solid-but-not-great defense. Somebody will pick up Norman and reap unbelievable rewards. I hope it's us, but I don't like our chances given current cap situation.

Re: NFL Free Agency 2016
The count is up to 10 teams that have contacted cornerback Josh Norman's representation, according to a league source. Several wanted the 2015 Pro Bowl selection to visit today, but so far no visits are scheduled. Among the teams interested in Norman, who became an unrestricted free agent on Wednesday when the Panthers rescinded the franchise tag, are San Francisco, Tampa Bay and Pittsburgh.
If Pittsburgh gets him, watch the fuck out. That defense elevates and I put them as Super Bowl favorites.

I wouldn't be a big fan of this move...its gonna be a big number. Rather pay Muhammed Wilkerson or make a move for him

Re: NFL Free Agency 2016
Like half the NFL is interested in him, I'd want him but not for 15 million per year.

Re: NFL Free Agency 2016
pretty sure we haven't cut roberts because he's still injured and that's a thing. at least last i heard.
as far as norman, he is a great player, and even if we have to cut a player like culliver to make room, it's an upgrade. if you're a team, you would want to know why he was cut though. i mean, if the panthers found out he's about to get a 16 game suspension for peds, well... that's important information. i assume anything like that would have already leaked from the nfl offices by now. |
