Well little Shanny created quite the buzz. Anytime a coordinator is young they are labeled a boy genius. Lol. |

Re: Should the Redskins Extend Jay Gruden’s Contract?
I can't imagine a 30 year being a hc in the NFL. I doubt if Boy Wonder is ready for that..
But I think Kyle is probably ready. He's a proven OC who has done a real nice job in several stops. Last edited by skinsfan69; 11-30-2016 at 07:05 AM. |

McVay deserves to get some interviews but I think he needs more seasoning before he would get serious consideration as a HC.

I think teams will view it as too soon for McVay. They'll want more track record.

let's get a poll going on this.
i vote yes; playoffs last season and holding the 6th seed right now. stability while turning the roster over and adding depth - trending in the right direction.

Re: Should the Redskins Extend Jay Gruden’s Contract?
I agree with you for the most part, but to be honest there is a brain drain in the NFL with regards to HCs. After BB, you only have about half a dozen decent HCs in the league. McCarthy and Lewis might be on the outs if they can't salvage their respective seasons as well. If Andy Reid can't get the Chiefs to the next level in a couple seasons, he might be out. Face it, a lot of these guys are getting a bit long in the tooth and not much to really show for it.

Re: Should the Redskins Extend Jay Gruden’s Contract?
Exactly. You can add Marv Lewis to that list if he doesn't at least go deep in the playoffs. Too many teams don't want to go out on a limb and get a fresh face, so they stick with the "old school" guys that have already worn out their welcome in the NFL. There will be a big youth movement with HCs in the NFL within 5 years from now. Too many established coaches or big names have proven to be overhyped. Mike McCarthy likely will be shown the door within 2-3 years, if not sooner if the Pack doesn't make the post season. If Sean does get a gig as a HC an a couple of seasons, maybe see if Norv would be available. Are there any other young OCs in the league that could replace McVay? I don't know of any. Like Kirk, Scotty needs to pay the man and keep him around til we contend.

There are a few coordinators that deserve a second chance. Rod Marinelli, Steve Spagnuolo, Josh McDaniels, and Scott Linehanand could receive hard looks in the off season. The better the Cowboys do, the more likely their coaching staff will be poached.

Re: Should the Redskins Extend Jay Gruden’s Contract?
Here is my list of coaches that could be canned by the end of next season. Sean Payton and John Harbaugh are long shots but they haven't done shit in several years. Drew Breese is 37 and will be retiring soon. Joe Flacco has regressed since their super bowl.
Marvin Lewis Mike McCarthy Sean Payton John Harbaugh Chuck Pagano Gus Bradley Mike McCoy Rex Ryan John Fox Chip Kelly Mike Mularkey |

Re: Should the Redskins Extend Jay Gruden’s Contract?
Absolutely. This team needs continuity at certain positions and head coach is definitely one of those positions. Letting JG go would mean starting over again with a new system and new ideas. He has to stay.

Re: Should the Redskins Extend Jay Gruden’s Contract?
I think it depends upon the playoffs. IF the 'skins get in and how deep they advance. I'd say if the 'skins make it to the NFC Championship game, I think McVay's stock goes up.

Re: Should the Redskins Extend Jay Gruden’s Contract?
He's still too young and too far down in the pecking order of potential candidates.
