Redskins and Breast Cancer Spam

I'm sure you noticed that when you go to Redskins.com there is a flash drop down ad for Breast Cancer Awarness Month and the Skins gear with the Pink Ribbon.

From the son of a now 30 year Breast Cancer Survivor I am very thankful for their efforts. I would not be here to be a Redskins fan without my mother. I would not know about sportsmanship as well without my mother. I would not know how to be a friend to you guys as well without my mother. I would not have as much drive for winning without my Mother.

I don't want anyone to lose their Mother to this. I don't want anyone to lose their sister or wife or friend to this.

If buy a Redskins hat with a Pink Ribbon with help...I'm there and my wife will look cute in it.

Bravo Redskins!
Thanks you very much.

If you are lucky enough to still have your Mother give her a call today out of the blue just to tell her you love her. Heck, tell her I love here too!

Have a great day guys and GO SKINS!
peace

Re: Redskins and Breast Cancer Spam

Well Slingin Sammy I hate to dimish your great post by I respectfully disagree with the Pink theme. I am personally tired of seeing the breast cancer thing when awareness on all cancer should be the theme. Everywhere you go you see pink this and pink that. In fact the other day I went to pick up a script for my wife and all they had were these pink bags for scripts for breast cancer. I would personally not like them to segregate the disease as they have. Cancer is cancer. Did you know that they have over 80 different chemo options for breast cancer and only 3 for colon cancer. With the mere numbers alone of more breast cancer patients do you know that lung cancer is the number 1 killer followed by colon cancer. So the spotlight on one aspect of the disease is a slap in the face to others with other forms. I truly like they support the disease itself but the pink thing should be buried. This is just my opinion, and it might be a different view then others but living it every day I can surely speak from experience.

Re: Redskins and Breast Cancer Spam

I disagree.
The fact that you know about this one cancer is a tribute to the folks who have pushed this to the forefront of people's attention. The shame is folks and folks related to folks with those other cancers have not made the same effort as these folks have.

Squeeky wheel get's the oil.

Had I not mentioned this cancer may I ask what efforts you were making to promote awarness of said cancers? Please don't read this as a challenge but an observation.

peace and healing

But if you have another type of cancer wouldn't you feel it is a slap in the face?

Awareness no matter what color it comes in is the key.

Re: Redskins and Breast Cancer Spam

You Gentlemen are both correct in my opinion.

I understand where CRT3 is coming from. It annoys me the RIAA and other businesses are spending millions on prosecuting people that download illegal material but when was the last time you heard a private organization do anything about the trade of childporn on the net or any other form of exploitation?

but i also agree with SSB. One of the reasons you hear alot about breast cancer is its one of the few forms of cancer(or any major illness) that you can test for at home. the better educated a women (or fortunate man) is on breast cancer, the better the chances of catching it early. if you catch it early, you have a good shot of beating it.
breast cancer is no worse than lung or colon cancer, but you cant give yourself a colon exam(but hey if you would like to try...) or a lung exam. Being in Sunny San Diego, we hear alot about detection of skin cancer. which is another form of cancer that we should be aware of and how to spot it.

like matty says, awareness is the key.

Re: Redskins and Breast Cancer Spam

I agree with you both Matty and jam, very well put. I personally would like the Skins to focus on all cancers when addressing this. It is interesting to note that one of the 40 Comprehensive Cancer Centers in the Country is named after one of the most legendary coaches, Lombardi, and is located in DC. The Redskins have very little involvment down there and should step up to the plate and be more activly involved with a Center that plays homage to the Coaches illness.

The Redskins currently only are active with Lombardi in the YArds for Youth program which is a charity that is used based on the on field success. You donate to the program based on the charity you pick(You have a choice of about 30 or so) and Lombardi is one of the 30 you have to choose from.

Awarness is the key and while the pink thing brings about awarenss I would love to see other programs about all kinds of illnesses thru the year.

Then do something yourself and not just complain about other people's efforts not doing your work.

Now that's not a fair statement to make because we don't know what CRT3 does as far as charities or passing along information to help educate people. We don't make assumptions like that of other Skin fans.

We all should hope for those with the ability to help all causes to do so and more often than not, when one cause is focused on, eventually other related causes gain more notice.

I agree, I dont really think its fair to CRT either. I can understand where your coming from Mike, especially if that disease hits close to home with you. I've been lucky enough to dodge anyone having cancer, which is such a rarity these days. I dont think he's critizising people promoting breast cancer, but you really dont see other forms of cancer promoted too much.

I agree with the fact that its a good one to promote because you can in most cases catch it before it will really hurt you, and its obviously somthing that affects so many people across the nation.

Personally, I think you're both right in your regards. I agree that its great the the Redskins are taking a stand against breast cancer. I would rather have them taking a stand against somthing, than not helping anyone at all. But I see exactly where CRT is coming from, and I dont think its fair to attack him for that.

I did assume and am sorry.

What efforts are you making CRT3 to promote awarness for the other cancers?
There. How's that?
Now we'll see what he's doing.

Re: Redskins and Breast Cancer Spam

GUYS GUYS GUYS... lets not make a big deal out of a small bit of miscommunication that can turn personal real quick. CRT3, I think you feel like by focusing on one kind of cancer people make light of all of the other kinds of deadly diseases that are out there. Maybe it does get more attention than other kinds of cancer. However instead of saying breast cancer gets too much attention, can we agree that other cancers just don't get enough? Lets not not support efforts put forth by one ajenda because we feel like there are too many other problems out there. I agree with the breast cancer efforts, but I DEFINATELY agree that there should be just as much attention given to non-hotchkins lymphoma (spelling), colon cancer, pancreatic cancer, hotchkins disease, melanoma..... etc.

We're all skins fans here, and for the most part (sorry bigskinbauer ) we're all adults. Lets not get so petty as to argue about who's cancer is the worst.???

I do know your situation CRT3 and I feel for you soo much. You are going through what my worst fear is in life and I cannot fathom that. I don't even know your real name, but I do remember you in my prayers. I don't think SBF meant to make light of the situation, and I objectively understand where your frustrations stem from.

SBF, with all the man is going through, I dont see where HIS efforts should even be called into question. Looking into his beautiful children's eyes and just living and making a life out of a situation that would ruin me... There should be enought charitable people in this worls so that the people who's lives are affected directly by this type of situation shouldnt be the people who are having to put forth the effort. They should be the ones being comforted.

Re: Redskins and Breast Cancer Spam

Did any of you actually read my post, the 2nd one on here. It was not looking for a battle just stating my opinion and respectfully disagreeing. I just wish that all cancers across the board would be reconized as one. Just stating my opinion.

Sammy as far as your question which in all honesty is ridiculous, I will tell you what I have done.

1. Actively sought thru meetings and conferences the rebuilding of Lombardi Comprehesive Cancer Center. November 2nd a big anouncment will be made on this. I have spent 2 year pursuing this as to have a better facilty for all cancer patients. I even brought the director of the center to his very first football game, to show him what the name Lombardi and football means to the community.

2. I have just completed a program to set up an education program via The Wellness Community with one of the Worlds Largest grocery store chains. They will have a town hall style meeting to educate people on how to communicate fears and questions on people with cancer. Its a bit more involved then this statement but you should catch my drift. This will be cohosted by a doctor or a educator and a celebrity. This program has notbeen fully finsihed yet but should be in action around April of 2006.

3. Personally had myself and my kids thank Lance Armstrong and the riders of Team Hope for their efforts on spreading awarness on Clinical trial. We met them 2 Strudays ago at 7:30 AM in their hotel in Rockville. They were all very gracious and were very appreciative of the support as I was of their actions towards my children.

Now I could go on and on about this as I am a very active person in this particular issue. So to question my integrety is quite wrong on this. The Redskins should support all types of cancer and not just the pink one. That is my view and untill you can come up with a logical point of view that differs I suggest you talk about somthing else.

Re: Redskins and Breast Cancer Spam

Then damn them stupid Redskins for helping out Breast Cancer.

I'm an Amputee...they don't donate to amputees
My friend Bob died of Kidney failure...they don't donate to that cause.
My Grandfather died of Colon issues and they don't donate to that cause.
I had a friend that died of AIDS but I see no Redskins money going there.

MY point was bravo for their positive action for [1] cause.

Sorry bro I feel yer pain but it was a bit petty to bust on the Skins for helping one cause and not Yours.

peace
