Rivera was counting on much much more from RF than he's getting from TH.

Do you really think Ron thought he was getting a top 5 QB in RF??

Per the article PFF ranked RF #19 coming into this year, that's more like what Ron thought he was getting.

Re: Taylor Effing Heinicke

I think RR and Turner were looking for a game managing qb who can throw the ball to Gibson or Thomas on designed plays PLUS the ability to hit on the occassional long shot.

Stretching the field and not letting D only defend the first 20 yards from LOS was a big talking point coming into this season.

Heinike was hitting those seams to Thomas for good through air yards plays and I hope we can get that going. Effective when we need 15

No. I think RR thought he was getting a dynamic QB who seemed to be getting better and could provide WFT with a deep threat QB that they haven't, and still don't have.

Don't get me wrong, I like TH and what he's doing now but the notion that WFT has somehow found its QB of the future is IMO ridiculous.

It might be equally as ridiculous to say they haven't. We just haven't seen enough.

Re: Taylor Effing Heinicke

I really don’t care about the deep ball right now. It is no coincidence that our D is rising up as we are killing clock with long sustained drives. There is a happy chemistry on this team right now between the O and the D that we haven’t seen in forever. They are feeding off each other.

Teams still have to respect the deep ball with Terry and now Curtis back. So let TH chuck it every once in a while to keep the defense honest, but we make our living with runs, screens, and intermediate passes - LT gonna get in a groove soon. That is how you give the D the rest it needs. It is how they force 3 and outs late in games when you need stops.

Exactly. TH can be enough of a threat with the WR corps we have. That's what opens the middle for LT and McKissic. If defenses stop respecting the deep routes then TH's future will be questionable.

Re: Taylor Effing Heinicke

Scott Turners offense isn't set up for many deep shots anyway.. Even in Carolina they didn't do it much with Cam.

I agree, and it's not like we're not taking shots. Normally Terry comes down with those, but it just wasn't in the cards. I think right now we're averaging 2-3 long balls a game, and that's about right considering #4's arm strength. Keep on completing 77% of your passes and we'll all be...

Yup. Its refreshing to see coaches actually catering to our strengths.

Re: Taylor Effing Heinicke

That GW drive was clutch by TH, on that first play he scrambled from pressure and released the ball before Bates even turned his head, great anticipation and catch too
