New CB Rasul Douglas signed
This is good news, maybe even an outside CB instead of Sanrisil.
It was a big need. Great job AP!

Re: New CB Rasul Douglas signed
Here's the link
https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/...eal-commanders For what it's worth, Douglas's PFF numbers were in the 70s, vs 50s for Amos and Sanrisil and Witherspoon (and Lattimore) and upper 40s for Robertson (slot) Don't get too excited, he plays for a different team every year. Worst case, he's probably CB 4, best case he's #2 and Mikey covers the slot with Roberson as backup.

I don't think our CBs are stars or anything, but this guy raises our floor, and he's big and good in run support, so he won't get shoved around as easily as Mikey on the outside. Interestingly, both offense and defense have an abundance of slot. So getting what I think is another startable outside guy is definitely a good thing!

Yeah I think he might be better than Witherspoon based on experiences alone, but I highly doubt he will be a valuable contributor unless we experience multiple injuries with our CBs.

He was the best starting CB on an NFL team last year. They should want him to play, at least in rotation. Amos is still injured and Witherspoon couldn't hold his own in shells against our #2/3 wide receivers, which happens to be our other weakness. No way he could compete with Pickens, etc. Not saying Douglas would shine either, but nor would Mikey. I kind see our corners like this at this point "currently" B- Amos (injured/last yr) starter outside C- Sanrisil (last yr) starter outside C- Robertson (last yr) starting nickleback B- Douglas (last year) solid backup outside D+ Witherspoon (recently) cut backup outside I am not sure if Harris is considered a CB, but he would be a cut candidate too, but he is likely considered better than Witherspoon, and he play special teams I don't see Witherspoon making the cut now. There is a world Rasul Douglas starts on the outside, either because of Amos injury or if he is clearly better than Mikey outside. I doubt they would do that though as I bet they want to develop Mikey outside and keep Robertson in the slot as they say he's best there. I like many here am confused as to where to play Mikey (slot or outside) My eyes tell me he should not be covering tall wr with his back turned. He actually seems like a free safety type to me, or a zone coverage guy. Amos is a traditional man guy, I feel best about him. Regarding my grades, I expect the top 3 will improve, and Douglas has peaked. Witherspoon is far better than recent reports, who knows, maybe he just had a bad spring. I do not think we are in trouble is Douglas starts, any drop off from a starter would be minimal. You could even put him on an island like Lattimore and he's probably do just as well but with a pick or two. I am feeling much better about CB, it was a a concern for me. This may be one of the best depth signings of the off season. As a backup outside CB, he was clearly the best available and pretty good at that. Now we need a #2 WR and an amazing Center to be cut.

Re: New CB Rasul Douglas signed
You are right, I did not pay attention to Douglas last year although the reports stated that Douglas started the season as #3 CB for Miami but one of their top 2 CBs had injuries, which forced Douglas to start. Still, it's a good sign that he ended up becoming their best CB for the season.
I was under the impression that Amos will be ready for the season but I might have gotten it wrong. It seems like the FO and Quinn have done enough to boost the CBs group, which is great. |

I like this signing but this CB room is still below average and that's a dangerous game in today's NFL. |

We will know more when training camp starts in a couple weeks. Regarding Douglas. There is an unfortunate world were he is our #1 CB if Amos remains injured. I see Douglas as one of 3 clear outside corners #1 Amos #2 Douglas #3 Witherspoon We don't even know if Mikey or Amik Robertson are being considered outside. Mikey was drafted as a slot CB, and he sucked bad last year outside. People assume it was because or scheme and injuries and that he is penciled in as our outside 2 CB because they paid a lot for Amik Robertson from the lions who historically covered the slot. But Robertson wasn't good either. And on a blog about this topic by a Lions insider, I heard something new, that Robertson was bad inside and his outside work against Jefferson opened some eyes. So oddly, maybe the skins see Mikey back to the slot and Robertson outside (stretch) If that is the case, I see why they needed Rasul Douglas. Douglas is definitely an outside guy, he is historically the best outside guy they have except some flashes from Amos and Robertson who is shorter. I don't remember seeing a lot of outside CB flashes from Mikey last year, just a lot of QBs picking on him for TDs I am truly just as confused for CB 2 as I am for WR2. To me its actually a 3 man race, they want Amik or Mikey to nail it, but Douglas is likely better at this point of doing that job. Witherspoon? Meh So yeah, if Amos is still rehabbing, yes, they must put Douglas in. I see him as his clear backup, and outside CB backup overall, even over one of the two shorter slot guys. Who knows Maybe it is Outside 1: Amos Outside 2: Robertson/Douglas Nickle: Mikey (robertson) The safest move is actually Amos and Douglas outside and either Mikey or Robertson in thee slot. I'm sure their plan was to play Robertson a lot and Mikey too. Maybe they convert one to safety. It is really a puzzle, but getting Douglas really, really helps. Sacks are not going to magically make CB play that is horrible suddenly terrific. Average, sure. So making a cb who is average suddenly good is entirely possible in Douglas
