Redskins | Contract update: A. Archuleta
Mon, 13 Mar 2006 10:42:45 -0800

Jason La Canfora, of the Washington Post, reports Washington Redskins S Adam Archuleta signed a six-year contract that averages $5 million a season to join the Redskins. Archuleta's contract includes a sizeable $10 million signing bonus.

Cowboys | Contract update: A. Ayodele
Mon, 13 Mar 2006 14:07:14 -0800

Adam Schefter, of the NFL Network, reports Dallas Cowboys LB Akin Ayodele signed a five-year, $17 million contract that included a $5 million signing bonus to join the Cowboys.

49ers | Contract update: A. Bryant
Mon, 13 Mar 2006 11:59:57 -0800

Cardinals | $67M available for 2007 cap
Mon, 13 Mar 2006 14:42:58 -0800

John Clayton, of ESPN.com, reports the Arizona Cardinals have $67 million in cap space for 2007.

Giants | McQuarters agrees to terms
Mon, 13 Mar 2006 15:27:52 -0800

John Clayton, of ESPN.com, reports free agent CB R.W. McQuarters (Lions) has agreed to three-year, $6 million deal with the New York Giants. The deal includes a $2 million signing bonus.

Eagles also sign howard to a 10.5 SB 30mill 6 year deal (kinda rich for an old guy).

Alright, the cards have crazy cap space next year (and with the new stadium, they might mimmick the browns in a buying spree). Bryant gets 3.75mill a year, which is a lot lesss $/yard than randle-el got, hopefully his attitude problems re-emerge so i have no regrets The giants, in response to our WR corp, are sucking up CBs like no tomorrow. McQuarters would have been a decent signing for such a pittance. Adoyele is only getting 3.4mill a year and would have been a great add at that price, i'm sorry we didn't give him a look.

as for the skins, EVERYONE gets a 6/7 year 30mill contract like springs or moss got we WAY overpaid for archuleta (5mill a year for a safety??) and might have overpaid for R'El (totally depends on production). lloyd and carter are good values at that price though, and should prove it soon.

OL (J Mitchell targetted)
LB (??? - #2 draft pick?)
CB #3 (still plenty available)
K
P (dirk johnson, or draftee)
QB #3 (collins)

those are whats left. OL is a definate need, if mitchell signs as our backup, than the #2 pick is basically reserved for an LB, with late picks on CB/OL and possibly a punter or value QB. Right now it looks like Hall will be back, though that could always change.

Chiefs | Bernard to visit
Mon, 13 Mar 2006 15:34:05 -0800

Mike Sando, of the Tacoma News Tribune, reports free agent DT Rocky Bernard (Seahawks) has a visit planned with the Kansas City Chiefs.

there's the undisclosed team. with the money we've spent, my guess is that griffin and wynn are our starting DTs with joe going back to the #3 spot.

Panthers | Former cheerleader avoids jail time
Mon, 13 Mar 2006 15:34:53 -0800

The Associated Press reports former Carolina Panthers cheerleader Victoria Renee Thomas avoided jail Monday, March 13, by pleading no contest to charges stemming from her role in a brawl sparked by accusations that she was having sex with another cheerleader in the bathroom of a bar. Under the deal with prosecutors, Thomas pleaded no contest to misdemeanor charges of battery and unlawful display of a license. Also, she entered a pretrial intervention program for the one felony charge she faced, giving a false name to an officer. Thomas was ordered to participate in anger management counseling, perform 50 hours of community service and pay $400 restitution to a woman she punched, who had been waiting to use the bathroom at Banana Joe's in November.

its always heart-warming to hear about drunk and beligerent cheerleaders staying out of jail It's like, the American Way (c).

Bills | Moulds asks for his release
Mon, 13 Mar 2006 16:25:54 -0800

Leo Roth, of the Democrat and Chronicle, reports Buffalo Bills WR Eric Moulds, who has been asked to take a substantial cut in pay, wants the team to release him from the final two years of his contract so he can sign with another team. "Let him go, it's only fair," Greg Johnson, Moulds' personal advisor, said today after talking with his client. "If they're not going to pay what we feel is fair-market value, he should be allowed to go somewhere where he could maybe get it." Moulds is scheduled to count $10.8 million against the salary cap and he's due to earn $7.1 million in cash (salary and bonus) for the upcoming season.

not that it matters now, still it a big name with contract issues, so...

also, no one wants to give givens 5$mill a year, he keeps bouncing around without any real interest. patten's bombing may have seriously wrecked his value.

Seahawks | Contract update: Hutchinson provision
Mon, 13 Mar 2006 17:12:40 -0800

Adam Schefter, of the NFL Network, reports Seattle Seahawks transition free agent OG Steve Hutchinson has a provision in his contract which states he must be the highest paid offensive lineman on his team for the 2006 season or his entire $50 million contract becomes guaranteed, according to someone who has seen the offer sheet the Minnesota Vikings offered him. Seahawks OT Walter Jones averages $7.5 million a season and Hutchinson's contract will average $7 million a season. If the Seahawks decide to match the offer, they would have to figure out a way to squeeze his over $13 million salary figure into their cap and would guarantee the rest of his $50 million contract, which would make it the richest cash contract in NFL history by $15 million.

49ers | Nolan still thinks team can re-sign Peterson
Mon, 13 Mar 2006 18:11:17 -0800

Greg Beacham, of the Associated Press, reports the flurry of free-agent signings around the league left San Francisco 49ers head coach Mike Nolan surprisingly confident the 49ers had a chance to re-sign free agent LB Julian Peterson (49ers). He is still on the market while many other high-profile free agents are gone. "I don't know why, (but) I have a sense of being encouraged by all the things that have happened," Nolan said.

Eagles | Team must make decision on Owens by Tuesday
Mon, 13 Mar 2006 18:09:56 -0800

Adam Schefter, of the NFL Network, reports the Philadelphia Eagles must make a decision on WR Terrell Owens by Tuesday, March 14. Owens is due a $5 million roster bonus and it is unlikely a team will trade for him now.

Dolphins | Team meets with Vanderjagt
Mon, 13 Mar 2006 18:05:06 -0800

Adam Schefter, of the NFL Network, reports free agent PK Mike Vanderjagt has met with the Miami Dolphins.

vander is starting to get action, TO week is about to begin and peterson may wind up back with the 49ers, since no one wants to pay big money to injured (and slower ever since) LBs.

Cardinals | $67M available for 2007 cap
Mon, 13 Mar 2006 14:42:58 -0800

"John Clayton, of ESPN.com, reports the Arizona Cardinals have $67 million in cap space for 2007."

I know it's not a free-agent signing. Just too incredible not to post somewhere (though I didn't necessarily think it deserved its own thread). $67 million is unreal...and of course they won't even spend half of it.

Dolphins | Culpepper interested in joining team
Mon, 13 Mar 2006 19:29:59 -0800

Jim Wyatt, of the Tennessean, reports Minnesota Vikings QB Daunte Culpepper said he has sights set on joining the Miami Dolphins. Culpepper has requested the Vikings to either trade or release him.

I have a feeling the phins like hsi talent more, but since he might not play till halfway into the year, they're still favoring a brees deal.

Browns | Still working to sign Edwards
Mon, 13 Mar 2006 20:13:15 -0800

Patrick McManamon, of the Akron Beacon Journal, reports the Cleveland Browns are still working to sign free agent DE Kalimba Edwards (Lions). "We're still in it," general manager Phil Savage said of the talks to sign Edwards, who would move from an end in Detroit to play outside linebacker and end in pass-rush situations with the Browns. Savage said the Browns envision Edwards in the same kind of role LB Willie McGinest played for the New England Patriots. "We feel like we can unleash (Edwards') potential in this scheme," Savage said.

interesting...

Re: Official NFL Free Agent Signings Thread

yeah the vikes signed a bunch of 2nd rate talent, they're trading off a franchise QB and the best player on their team is going to be a 50$million OG? it makes no sense besides just screwing over the hawks.
