02/08/06 - PRO POTENTIAL: RB Cornell Brockington is attempting to become the first UConn tailback selected in the NFL Draft since Green Bay used an 11th-round pick on Eric Torkelson in 1974. Torkelson played for the Packers for seven seasons, four of which he was a teammate of Brockington's cousin, John. As for Cornell Brockington, he claims NFL officials have told him he'd be drafted, but it's anyone's guess in which round, if at all.

01/13/06 - RB Cornell Brockington has decided to skip his senior season and apply for the 2006 NFL draft. Brockington played in 33 career games as a Husky, making 12 starts. He gained 2,198 career yards, ranking him fifth in school history.

11/10/05 - RB Cornell Brockington had another miserable game last week, rushing for minus-5 yards on two carries. With three games left, Brockington doesn't have many more chances to save what has largely been a lost season.

10/26/05 - RB Cornell Brockington broke free for a 51-yard TD run last week. Is that the play that finally turns around Brockington's so-so season?

10/20/05 - This could be the week junior RB Cornell Brockington resurrects his lost season. Last year, he led the Big East in rushing. This year he has 194 yards and three touchdowns.

I guess the quest officially begins for the replacement of Ladell Betts when this season is through.

Anybody disagree that Betts is outta here once he's a free agent? Joe Buck, (not that he knows anything) said once that Betts should get a #1 job somewhere if he ever gets the chance.

I'm inclinded to agree that we won't be able to keep him around for the $$.........But, then again, it seems like there just isn't any demand for RBs these days. Even when guys like Edge and Shaun Alexander were up on the trading block a year ago, their teams didn't really get any interest.....so I wonder how much someone like Betts would really be able to get in free agency.

Yeah I like Ladell a lot but you make a good point. We should not pay very much to keep him. When it comes to RBs it's a buyer's market. We should be able to find a good replacement by drafting one at some point, or maybe one of these new guys (or Nemo, or Rock, or Lumsden) will fill in adequately.

chester taylor (#2 RB - ravens) is getting 4mill a year as a viking....

RB contracts are a bit rediculous with how cheaply you can get productive starters undrafted or as early as the 2nd round.

The only backup I can think of recently that turned out to be a fairly hot commodity as a free agent was Lamont Jordan, who the Raiders went after and signed.

But then, ... they're the Raiders.

Ladell Betts is perfect in the role that he's in. But I don't know how many teams would want him to start.

Betts is a good starter for streches at a time. But he gets hurt too much to be a 16 week starter. I am afraid he will be a forever backup to any team with a real stud RB. There are places where he could be a starter however, but that team won't have him for 16 games. As long as they are OK with that situation he could probably get more money in FA that the Skins would pay to keep him.

he was the #2 in baltimore, he's the #1 in minnesota.
