Player Hating

My first blog article is titled Player Hating

It's my little tribute to all the pessimists, enjoy.

Re: Player Hating

By the way, Monk doesn't get into the Hall catching 900 8-yard hooks either.

Re: Player Hating

But Irvin gets in for basically ass-raping the DB all the way down the field? I guess Z has a soft spot for sodomy.

I thought we were talking about Matty's blog here, how did this become a thread about Monk?

Indeed. Back to the subject at hand (in all fairness, Matty hijacked his own thread, but when you're the Ego, you can do that). I know we all talk about this "beat each other up" mentality in the NFC East, but what's going to make us beat each other up more than any other year?

I think that's a good point. The NFC East is really getting hyped up. Sure it will be tough again, but you just know that at least one of the teams isn't going to live up to expectations (I pray it isn't us).

Re: Player Hating

Very true, expectations or not, it's not like one single player is going to make any team more "tired" than they were last year. We all played each other as tough as possible last year and I expect the same this year. Sure, the records might not reflect it, but a team's respective record won't reflect fatigue, it's just going to reflect talent. If we make it to the playoffs again, I don't expect us to be any more "beat up" than last year.

Re: Player Hating

The last time the NFC East was this competitive they all but dominated as representatives to the Super Bowl with some team called the 49er's mixed in here and there. Better competition produces better teams.

Re: Player Hating

you hit every nail on the head with that one Matty. i was on the edge of my seat all last season looking at Springs. he really is the linchpin of the defense, because it allows all the Williams wizardry to happen. Archuleta and Taylor can close, but they aren't the best cover guys. that receiver needs to be covered by somebody when Williams sends people on blitzes.

of course, Brunell is the other rickety linchpin.

the two most important positions on the team are weathered vets at the end of their careers, and their backups are both 2nd year players! (i dont think anyone wants to see Collins).

we can't take anything for granted this year, last season was a good one because these two stuck it out. can't rely on that this season, its gonna be a real tight year.

Yeah one team is gonna tank. Injuries straight up will derail one team for sure and probably seriously affect another.

I share a lot of the concerns that the blog had but simply don't consider all of the concerns as things to be "scared" about any more than other teams. Everyone has issues in the NFL.

What I am most scared of in the feeling I get from this year's team. I don't like the expectations. In fact the expectations feel a lot the same as in 2000 when we had just made the playoffs and then brought in some FAs to shore up the problem spots. I think we brought in Rhodes to be d-coord too. This year feels way too much like that year and we tanked. Of course the biggest difference is that Norv isn't our h-coach now. I think it is ok to say Gibbs is slightly better.

I think the fact that Gibbs is still our coach will make all the difference. Personally, I love all the off-season moves - Saunders included. But the biggest off-season move was, in fact, a non move. Gibbs is back!! And one thing he does well, besides Xs and Os, is that he manages expectations very, very well. He knows how to play down what the media is saying good or bad, but privately he can be intense and knows how to get players to show up. He knows how to set the temparature in the locker room.
Gibbs is a Redskin through and through - down to the last drop!
Redskins beget Redskins. Whether we have Al Saunders (..and I certainly think he'll add a lot) or no, I'd still put my money on Joe this year!
