Tony McGee answers your questions about Dallas

Once again this week, I’m not surprised by the outcome of the game. This team may be a little worse than I thought following the preseason. We’re watching the same mistakes and problems now that we were watching in August. Looking specifically at the offensive and defensive lines, I think they may be giving each other a false sense of security. What I mean by that is that they are going against each other in practice every day, and I’m sure they look pretty good in practice with each other, then come game time, they can’t get it done. Once again, I’m not surprised at what I saw in terms of outcome, but I really didn’t think they would play this poorly.

TheMalcolmConnection, Rome108, Brunell is not playing well, but its not completely on him. I think you can spread the blame around on offense to everyone; the line in particular and Mark are the biggest problems. Brunell was gun-shy because of the hits that came his way; and the receivers were affected because of it. I don’t think you can make a change to Jason Campbell unless the problems are completely Brunell and not the line, if he has good protection I think it will be more accurate of how he will play. Weather that is good or bad I do not know.

Mattyk72, its too early to judge if brining in Saunders was a mistake or not. More of the problems I see right now are just guys getting beat physically from top to bottom. I can deal with missed assignments and things of that nature with a new offense coming in, but to be honest it’s not that hard for NFL players, QB aside, to adapt to that new of an offense. Most of the problems we see right now are physical ones and until those are fixed you can’t judge the offense.

Illdefined, I think that the secondary was ignored in the off season, and it shows now. I’ll give the benefit of the doubt to Mike Rumph who has only been here a few weeks as he is still learning the offense. The other guys again are just getting beat physically, and the lack of pass rush kills the secondary, Bledsoe had all day to throw. In addition, I agree about Ryan Clark. I think he was much more important to this team than people realized and he was a big loss.

Artmonkdrillz, as far as positives from the game, you can find a few. I liked TJ Duckett and thought he played well in the game, he should work out here. Going to the safety position, I think Sean Taylor is poised for a pro bowl year. You saw a lot of Cowboy receivers dropping passes, and that was because they had their eyes open for where Taylor was on the field. You can expect to see a lot of that this season.

As far as the help I can provide for pass rush, I suppose if you want a broken down old man who can play 10 snaps a game, I’d be happy to return LOL.

Gmanc711, you asked if it was good that the Texans are on our schedule to work out our problems against? All I will say is that we played a weaker team in Minnesota and had our chance there as well. Minnesota is not that good, and they will be there at the end.

Finally TAFKAS, Andre Cater has not played well thusfar no. If you look at him overall, he had one really solid season with 12 sacks and since then has been no more than a 5-6 sack a year type of player. That’s not to say he’s not a good player, but he’s been shifted around from positions and injured and I think that may have an effect on him right now.

And as at this time last year us being 2-0 when you did the interviews, and us being 0-2 with Jason doing the interviews…I see no real correlation and don’t think that is effecting the Redskins very much LOL. Jason does a much better job anyways.

That’s it for this week guys! Thanks for having me again.

Tony McGee’s Pro Football Plus is on Saturdays on Comcast from 11:30am to 12pm. Please check it out and tell others to do the same as well.

See you guys next week!

-Tony.

Tony McGee's NFL career started in 1971 where he was a starting defensive end for the Chicago Bears. In 1974, Tony began a 7 year stint with the New England Patriots and earned the nickname, "Mac the Sack." His unique ability to swarm opposing quarterbacks helped coin the phrase, "designated pass rusher." Tony's career as a Washington Redskin began in 1982, and included a Super Bowl championship. Tony ended his spectacular career in 1985 with 106 career sacks and played in over 200 games -- a feat achieved only by a select group of NFL defensive linemen.

I dropped a can of Coke that I'd just picked up yesterday because I thought Sean Taylor was about to hit me. Turned out it was just a clip of him on TV.

If Taylor isn't playing the best ball at that position right now, I don't who is.

I agree, but he doesn't get credit around the league because people think he's a punk. It wouldn't surprise me if he's passed up for the pro bowl again this year no matter how good he plays.
