Offseason plan for 2007
Sucks to be talking 2007 in October, but that's the hand we've been dealt. Vote and discuss.

Re: Offseason plan for 2007
minimal -- consistency/stability is key.
I'd like to have some more restraint in FA this offseason.

However, I hope we drop our "consistency" because we're consistently bad year after year after year, expect for last season which now is looking more like a fluke.

Re: Offseason plan for 2007
Minimal...we still have a VERY good core group of players to still build around. I dont really get why its not working this year; but I think if we keep these guys around, JC plays well at QB, we could be alright.

Re: Offseason plan for 2007
moderate, we need to change out at least 3-4 defensive starters, and QB. the coaching staff needs to be pared down.

Re: Offseason plan for 2007
Any time you switch QBs, I can't call that a minimal change. I want to see them go to Campbell next season which can only be described as moderate in my eyes.
I want to keep the same schemes, keep the same coaches, keep the same offensive line, keep Portis, Moss, Cooley, Lloyd, ARE, Sellers. I'd get Rocky ready to play, maybe upgrade Lemar Marshall, play Carter only on passing downs, play Archuleta only on running downs, and DEFINITELY get a real good CB. But the biggest change I want to see is a complete shift in philosophy, getting away from acquiring players through free agency and start acquiring them through the draft. I want to see us acquiring picks, not trading them away. That would be a pretty big shift in the way the team is managed.

Re: Offseason plan for 2007
At this point, I have to say minimal changes considering we don't know how the rest of the season will play out. Probably need to address both lines, make the quarterback change, and go after a studly DB. That being said, I do still think there's time to gel this year if we can manage to get healthy and go out there and play like we want to win.

Re: Offseason plan for 2007
i said moderate, but maybe some of that can start right now. somewhere along the line the skins need to find out if Campbell can play in this league, because this is definitely brunells last season. lets see if our offense looks any different with a quarterback that actually throws the ball down field. and we desparately need a corner that can cover. a defensive end that can actually get to the qbck would be nice, also

Re: Offseason plan for 2007
the defense seems like its already blown up. so blowing it up again wouldn't hurt it. maybe Gray could go as the DB coach.
i think the offense only needs to change one guy. you can guess.

It's not like they haven't done a good job drafting both early and late. Dockery, Sean Taylor, Montgomery, Golston, Betts, Marshall and Pierce as UDFAs all came from the draft. It's not like there is even a problem with trading picks for role players. It's that every time we make a deal, we get far sub par league average value for our pick.

Re: Offseason plan for 2007
Jansen and Samuels like to run block, not pass protect. especially for the time it takes Brunell to feel confident enough about his arm and the recievers openess to actually throw the ball. and when he does, it's only a 6yd play so its wash, rinse, repeat over and over, and thats on a GOOD drive.

Re: Offseason plan for 2007
I believe a moderate change in philosophy is needed by the skins. What i mean by that is a balance b/n building thru the draft and FA. I believe that building thru FA has cost us chemistry and more importantly DEPTH. When you pick up depth thru FA you are getting others castoffs. There is a reason that teams let people go most of the time. Seeing we have minimal picks next year it might take awhile to fix this.
We also need a quarterback that can take us to the next level. Brunell can't. Campbell is a MAJOR question mark at this point. Whoever makes the personel decisions needs to stop making personel decisions and get someone who knows what they are doing. Next time we overpay for a pash rusher, it better be for someone that resembles a Dwight Freeney. The next time we overpay for a safety they better be able to cover too. Gotta go too many things to list... |
