JC: Are You a 1,2, or 3?
Now that the decision has been made (obviously Joe Gibbs heard that 70Chip had become a solid #2 and quickly followed suit), what constitutes reasonable expectations for the play of Jason Campbell?
1. Tom Brady. Campbell will be one of those rare phenoms who steps in and immediately grasps the offense, demonstrates pocket awareness, and takes his team on a run. Madden and the ESPN crew will be drooling over him like there's no tomorrow. He will replace McNabb as the Campbell Soup spokesman (an easy choice for them). 2. Terry Bradshaw. Campbell will have fits and starts. It will take him more than one season to get to where he is going, and he will take plenty of heat along the way. Eventually he will reach that top level. I really struggled trying to come up with a good example QB here so any suggestions would be appreciated. First typed Matt Hasselback. 3. Ryan Leaf. An abject failure. He will never demonstrate any ability whatsoever. He will look completely lost and become an object of ridicule on Late Night television. He will be released after a locker room confrontation that ends with Bramm Weinstein being stuffed into a garbage can. I am a still a solid #2. Feel free to use decimal points if you so choose. I realize that the majority of QBs are about a 2.3. I use Bradshaw not because of his 4 rings, but because he had a slow start, then eventually came around. The early performance is what I think is relevant here.

I think I want to watch him play a couple games before I'd decide anything like this.

He'll be a 1.5-1.7 or so. I think he will grasp the Saunders offense better than Brunell, and we have a lot of weapons to make him look good if he can grow some nuts and throw downfield. He won't have to do it on his own and that should get him some serious confidence.

Re: JC: Are You a 1,2, or 3?
I think he will stand tall in the pocket which miraculously is offering him more time to get the ball out to Cooley in the middle or Moss/Lloyd down the sidelines. Having Duckett and Sellers in the backfield to block blitzing LBers will help also.
Oh forgot the number....1.5 Culpepper-like. Only not as full of himself.

I think he'll be a 2, closer to a 1. And there will be those that will bitch about "why didn't he play sooner" failing to consider that had he played sooner he very well could have been a 2, closer to a 3.

But going to be and is are two very different things. It would be assinine to expect Campbell to come in and outplay Brunell this season. On one hand, it will be interesting to see Campbell react in a situation that still matters. On the other, they will have to scale down the offense for him and thats not going to be pretty at all. I expect the O to rival the D in futility this week, and we will likely lose to a very beatable team. Hopefully they don't crush Campbell too much. Admittedly this team has been horrible, but you are given a certain amount of losses in the year, and we are giving up on them before they've proven they won't turn it around. Sunday isn't going to be pretty. 1.8

Re: JC: Are You a 1,2, or 3?
he's right, we may have to scale back the offense. look for 4 yard passes instead of 5 yarders. as if.

Who really knows at this point?

OK I'll bite. I will say 1.75 I think maybe his being able to scramble out of the pocket will change the way defenses play the Skin's. They are used to being able to get to the QB

Re: JC: Are You a 1,2, or 3?
I hope it's not his ability to scramble out of the pocket but his ability to remain within the pocket despite pressure to make the throw at the last possible moment. We need a QB who isn't afraid to take a hit and will stand tall until the last possible moment to deliver to our amazingly quick receivers.
