Re: Bill B Presents TMC's Pick the Position Poll
He got gang tackled......something we don't see much of anymore. Ask the Giants if Lavar was worth the money? Gibbs does not accept egos that think they're bigger than the team. I'm glad he's gone. Once we all loved him, those days are long gone bro!

Springs didn't really shut down Steve Smith all by his lonesome. On most plays we put ST over the top of Smith, doubling him. But yeah, Springs is still a good CB. It's just that he's old and isn't going to get any better. We need a young'n to come in and be THE GUY once Springs leaves, because I don't think Rogers is a #1. He's a good #2. My assessment of the D is this basically: Springs got hurt, Rogers regressed a bit, and Wright was marginal at filling in. This was compounded by the awful Archuleta signing. He can't cover at all, and Taylor was lost with him in there. The CBs had a bit of trouble, and the safeties weren't there to help them out. Without a secondary, Grilliams had no confidence in them and consequently basically stopped blitzing. Plus, Salave'a hasn't been as good at stopping the run this season, and Golston is undersized, so opposing RBs are getting 4 yards on 1st down relatively easily. Our LB corps is fine, IMO. If we secure the secondary and shore up the D-line at the DT position, we'll have what it takes to stop the run on first down and then blitz from 2nd and 3rd & longs. Golston was a nice find, but he shouldn't be more than a rotation guy. We need a shut down CB, a jack-of-all-trades SS, and a hole-clogging DT.

Re: Bill B Presents TMC's Pick the Position Poll
A big ass DT would clog up the line of scrimmage. You remember in 2000 when Tony Siragusa was with the Ravens? He would clog up the line so bad, it freed Ray Lewis up to have an AMAZING season. Our LBs are getting taken out of the equation because we don't have the DTs this year.
Salave'a was very stout against the run in 2004 and 2005. Our LBs like Washington and Marshall were able to flow to the ball. But Salave'a's legs have been hurt this year, and Golston can't clog the line well enough, he weighs less than 300 lbs. Put a big ass DT on that line, and all of a sudden we'll all be saying "hey, Marcus Washington is good again!" Marcus is still the same player. He didn't suddenly forget how to play football. Just got to give him help up front.

Good point on Harris. Its easy to complain now that he's doing so well on the 49ers. I'm going to give Springs more credit than most though. He's a tough Gibbs guy who has that veteran leadership we desperately need next year. Springs # 1, Rogers # 2, Taylor FS, SS ???????? Washington OLB Rocky MLB Briggs or Marshall OLB Carter DE Griffin DT Golston DT / Free Agent DT Daniels / Wynn DE How does this look guys?? Maybe draft a SS or CB in the 1st round???? I think if our Defense was like Gibbs year 1 or year 2 we would be right in the thick of this playoff hunt. Our offense is coming along and has no personel problems in my view. Keep them all!!!!! HOPE JC can stop the bonehead plays, that's what rookies do I guess. |

Re: Bill B Presents TMC's Pick the Position Poll
Lets look at what the Redskins have difficulty doing on defense and that will tell you what their biggest need is. The Redskins do not put pressure on the opposing quarterback with their front four. Usually the only time they get to the quarterback is by blitzing linebackers, safeties or corners. No pressure on the quarterback allows the quarterback time to pick out receivers and allows receivers to run complex patterns putting extreme pressure on your secondary. With a pass rush, the secondary doesn't have to cover as well and it forces the quarterback to make hasty decision, i.e. throw interceptions. Oh...that leads to the second biggest problem with the defense, lack of turnovers. No pass rush, no sacks and fumbles, no rushed throws and interceptions. It keeps coming back to putting pressure on the quarterback with your front four, the good teams do it. The Redskins have not had an impact defensive end in years...over ten years. They need a Julius Peppers or Shawn Merriman bad, two years ago.

I think we should scour free agency for a shutdown corner, but if we don't find one, we might as well stick with what we have. Sure it's risky to look the thing that killed you this season right in the eye and say that it can't screw you two years in a row, but if Nate Clements slips through our fingers, who are we going to bring in that would be an upgrade to Shawn Springs?

Last year we were hurried more than any team in the NFL according to the Pro Football Prospectus.

I think DE who can really get after the passer. To me that's been a glaring weakness for a long time. More pressure up front can make an average DB look a lot better.

Re: Bill B Presents TMC's Pick the Position Poll
Here's the problem with that. We already have Andre Carter who has great physical pass rushing skills. So espicially in GW's defense, the LE has to be able to anchor the run. If we can find a guy who can anchor the run and rush the passer and do both as well as anyone in the league, I'd love to have him, but I'm not sure such player exists.
