Prior to starting, he had a total of about 10 practices with the 1st stringers. It takes weeks for a seasoned QB to develop chemistry with a new WR. It could take months for a new QB who is also learning a very complex offensive system. I think we generally have the talent at WR, although I wouldn't mind seeing us take a late-round gamble on a big, possession-type receiver.

I agree, but I come to a different conclusion, which is that the chemistry can exist, but it's going to take some time, even into next year. I don't think we need changes at WR necessarily.
Thanks for the welcome

I think, and I hope that I wrong, that Campbell's abilities surprised some people in his first couple of games but after having actual game tapes of him. The Rams figured something out and put the clamps on our small receivers. THAT is where a intermediate receiver would come into play and I would rather have someone besides our tight end being that receiver.

The Redkins had the perfect receiver mix with "the smurfs" for speed and Art Monk for the 10-20 yard range catches and Clint Didier as a receiving tight end. We already have the tight end and "the smurfs" now we need a big receiver to finish the what can be a good receiver tandem. A good intermediate game will open up our deep passes and I guarantee you that it would make Lloyd a more valuable asset to our passing game also.

Re: Draft Position Next Year????

We're guaranteed to have a top 10 pick.

The Lions and Raiders will definitely be ahead of us, no matter what happens this week.

The Browns and Bucs are both 4-11, one game worse than us. If they win and we lose in the final week, we'd get into the tiebreakers to decide draft order.

If the season ended today, it we'd use tiebreakers to determine who picks 5th - 7th between us, the Texans, and the Cards.

There are 3 teams behind us, the Dolphins 49ers and Vikings at 6-9. If we win and they lose in the final week, we'd get into a tiebreaker.

Bottom line, we can't draft lower than 10th, and we can't draft higher than 3rd. We'll end up anywhere in between based on what happens in the final week.

I'd like to make Springs unemployed. I'm sorry, but that guy is allergic to contact. He can't stay healthy, and we need an anchor. Hate to bring up the Champ comparisons, but for chrissakes, Champ was playing last year with his shoulder in a frickin' sling for a game or two. Springs shatters when he's looked at aggressively by the other team.

Springs is our only corner who can play so basically you'd cut the guy that makes our defense work based on the results of this season. I think we keep Springs but look to add another #2 type who could handle the top spot adequately if Springs goes down. I can't help but think that Rogers has to get better next year too.

Given our history and the questionable personel decsions of the last few years, I'd just as soon see the Skins trade down for a whole mess off middle to late round picks. I'm not buying the idea that any one player on either side of the ball is going to fix what ails this team.

Unfortunately, you're correct. I've said before that there appear to be many within the organization who believe that they could leave Springs in there year after year without missing a beat -- as if they have the heir apparent to Darrell Green.

Now, with this shoulder injury, there should be no doubt -- Springs has probably played his last game as a Redskin. He'd be more of a liability next season that this team just cannot afford.

We need not one, but TWO corners. Rogers is a nickel at best.

Problem is, defensive linemen have the better value for the draft position we're likely to have.

Can't argue w/his history of injuries, the Skins even had concerns when they signed him. But look at the difference w/this D when he's been healthy & when he's not. It's a completely different team w/him.
I say we either draft a cb or sign Clements & get Springs to restructure. I think he can still play & is a team leader. We just need a young dude to step in.
I see us trying to sign Clements, but I really hope we don't pay him so much that we can't keep some of our vets. I know Wynn, Daniels, Springs & Salave are old, but they're also dependable team guys. We definitely need some youth, but not at the expense of losing vets.

I'll also add that D. Evans will be cut (or not re-signed) if we draft or sign any d-linemen.

Good work on this post. We'll take a top 10. Somebody will be desparate enough to deal a couple top picks if it makes sense for us. If we can get a dominant player we may have to jump on it.

It's a wash, cap-wise, whether we keep or release Springs. Springs makes the team better when he is out there. Assuming he doesn't restructure, he'll be around at least another year, at which point it will cost $3 million more to keep him than to cut him. If he is hurt for a part of next season, then he'll be gone.

However, the more likely situation is, as I mentioned in another thread, that he will restructure. This latest injury seriously hurts his marketability, so he's going to have to be flexible since he really can't go anywhere else and make what he could make here.

I don't think you you really save by cutting him - According to the cap chart on the site he is to make $977k next year and his releasing fee is $922k, so you only gain $50k by cutting him - is that really worth it considering the team has depth problems?

I think we should try to resign Darnarian McCants, remember him? He was like 6'5 and used to score a lot of touchdowns for us, what happened to him? He played at a 1AA school, I think it was Delaware State, and he grew like 5 inches while he was in college. So, you know he's the type of guy, like Reed Doughty, who's gonna give you everything he's got because it's a real honor for him to even be on the team. Plus, he wouldn't take up a lot of cap room.

Here he is, he scored 6TDs for the Redskins in 2003. NFL.com - Darnerien McCants

I think he's working on his next album:

Seriously, though, McCants just was never very good.

Yes, McCants is doing music and hanging out with Vivica A. Fox so I do not think that catching passes is on his mind right about now but someone his size and way better skills is what we are needing in D.C.
