Re: Gregg Williams Here We Go Again.

Archuleta was so bad a fit he was yanked from the starting squad in the middle of drills one day in November. Troy Vincent trotted out to replace him and Archuleta barely saw the field in ensuing weeks. And nobody has ever told him why, he said.

Haha, this is my favorite part of the article. I got no problems with Arch, he was a bad fit for the team, but we're the ones who offered to pay him so much money to come here. Plus, he didn't punk out during the season and cause a huge distraction like so many other pro players would have done in his situation. But Adam, why the hell do you think you were benched? Do you really not know? Everyone who has watched you play for the Redskins knows why you got benched, and you don't? Gregg Williams didn't tell me why you got benched and I still know why, because it's blatantly obvious why you don't play, you couldn't cover a drunk sumo wrestler staggering down the field after participating in a hot dog eating contest!!!! I mean, I do believe that Williams should have spoken to him and tried to help him fix the problem. But come on man, you coulda quit bitchin, shown some initiative and gone to Williams youself and asked him!!!! Plus, it's not a mystery why you got benched in the first place!!!!

Maybe early in the season, but later on when we were really pounding the rock the main problem offensively was the inability to punch it in.
Agreed, that's the only part of the article that lacked some explanation. I would've liked to hear more about the tuna's comments & what exactly he meant by them. There is obviously an impact on a D by the way the O plays but our D broke down in about every way possible.

Re: Gregg Williams Here We Go Again.

Its worth noting the Rams defenses were always mediocre to terrible in part because of the high-flying Saunders offense. This clearly doesn't play to the strengths of the Skins, who were a defensive team last year and not built for scoring races (even if perhaps someone thought they were).

I think the problem here is really boiling back to the "Real Redskin" problem. Where Gibbs might have been loyal to a fault to Brunell, it sounds like defensively the team has demonstrated 0 loyalty to anyone on defense, treating them all as replacable. Even top performing defensive players have been pushed out the door. The Redskins have run out of pegs to put in round holes, and it sounds like Williams loves to shove squares into round holes with all of his might. Worse, it seems like they can't cajole players into overperforming anymore because the team lacks credibility on how it has treated defensive players in the past 3 years.

Greg Williams the coach is just as good as he was a year ago when this board was having a collective hissyfit at the thought of him taking the Rams head coaching job.

However, Greg Williams the talent evaluator needs to be fired. Our coaching staff as a whole has to much say in personel. They are all good coaches but none have proven to be worth a damn as front office types.

On a side note, I read the article on Saunders yesterday and this article on GW today, and something is bothering me. Why are the Skins players and assistants, on conditions of anonymity, airing our dirty laundry in the media? That's typically not like a Gibbs team. I don't like it. It was more evident in the Saunders article, then I heard Portis today on the John Thompson show. Why are we running our mouths all of a sudden??
I respect Portis for standing behind what he says instead of hiding behind a reporter with anonymous quotes. Portis is an outspoken guy, and that's part of the price of having him on your team. Remember his first year when he complained about the other team knowing the plays? That said, Portis is a warrior and his hard-nosed play sets the tone for others. Betts has definitely risen his game by competing with him.

In both Philly losses, the defense allowed the Eagles to grind out the final 8 minutes and the final 5 minutes, when a quick stop would have given the Skins a chance to win. The Skins had one of the worst 3rd down defenses I've seen in a long time. That needs to be addressed. I agree, blaming the offense for quick possessions is very weak.

Re: Gregg Williams Here We Go Again.

I found interesting the portion of the article where he spoke of the prospect of being a head coach at some point in time again. How he was blindsided by Gibbs with the hiring of Al Saunders, because he had no idea that was his actual intention. He had mentioned to him, if he was/or became a head coach again, he would consider hiring Saunders as his offensive coordinator, and before he knew what was happening, it was a done deal. It appeared striking that Gibbs hadn't seemed to have given it a lot of thought.

I think Gibbs was completely joking when he said to Williams "I picked him because of what you said" I think that Gibbs had it in the works for a while. Remember how back in late November/early December of 2005 Gibbs made a comment about how Dan (Snyder) has agreed to do something that I will know hurt him financially but is good for the team? I think it was then that Gibbs convinced Snyder to open his wallet for Saunders (assuming he became available)

That said, I also think Williams' endorsement helped because Gibbs probably thought "Well Gregg is my successor here, it'd be good to hire someone he would want here as well"

You're probably right because it wouldn't be "Gibbs Like" to make a hasty decision. I had forgotten about the comment Gibbs had made earlier, but now that I do, it all comes together. I'm hoping that between now, and the coming season, Gibbs and Saunders can work out what seems to be a minor glitch in how they're going to coexist when it comes to the playcalling.

Re: Gregg Williams Here We Go Again.

we did have some key injuries on Defense this year and that does contribute heavily. when springs is out the game is off. The D worked way to hard early in the season also dut to poor offense. GW was brought to the skins because he has a history of good defense. Every one expects the skins to be awesome all the time and if not, rebuild and replace. That has actually been the skins biggest problem for many years running.
