Monk Community Project Letter

In the spirit of Dgack's idea, I drafted this letter to send to DC Habitat For Humanity. Please give feedback.

Dear Members of DC Habitat for Humanity,

I am a member of a Redskins fan site called www.thewarpath.net. The Warpath is composed of Redskins fans from all over the world, and the Warpath is our haven to discuss, rant, debate, and cope with all topics related to the Redskins. Although the Warpath's members do not always agree with one another, and each member thinks that if they were hired as the Redskins' general manager, the Skins would have 3 more Superbowl rings, there is one thing that we all have in common: WE ALL BLEED BURGUNDY AND GOLD! For many of us, the Redskins are more than just a team that we route for; they're our livelihood. Losses cause us to go into a week long funk of unpleasantness, while wins turn us into rays of sunshine. In short, we all just really love the Redskins.

As you probably know Art Monk was recently denied membership to the Hall of Fame, again. I think I can speak for all Redskins fans when I say that something must be done about this. I don’t think I need to go into detail about how great of a man Monk is and list his accomplishments on and off the field, if you’re a Skins fan or from the DC area, you already know. Anyways, recently a member of the Warpath brought up the idea of doing something to show Monk and the rest of the country how much the Redskins fandom appreciates what this man has done for the community of DC, and show how bogus we think it is that he was not inducted into the hall of fame. We want to do something for the community in Art’s name, and represent Art the way he represented us Skins fans when he played: by getting something done in the trenches. (I took that last line from dgack’s original post; I did not come up with that)

Do you have any ideas or projects that could help us fulfill this cause? I believe that people would jump at the opportunity to do something for the community in Monk’s name; we just need some guidance on how to do it. Please let me know.

Good letter. I think one thing to keep in mind is the timing of everything. This isn't going to carry much weight if it's done in April. It should be a two pronged attack-in the summer around induction time, and in the winter around voting time

I think it's a good start. Double check for grammar and spelling

Thanks, gabe. Please note that I'm also coordinating this effort with readers of the Washington Post sports blogs (Redskins Insider and Steinberg's Sports Bog) and am not opposed to extending invitations to other forums that want to participate. So I think we want to make sure we don't sound like this is just a small group of people -- the goal here is to be a very large group of fans.

This is a good start for when we get to the stage where we're ready to determine what project we want to do -- so with your permission, I'll hold onto this until we're ready for that.

I am working on a mission statement that will define the project's goals and what we hope to accomplish. Anyone got a good idea for the name of the project or group? My rather lame working title was "Art's House" but it would be nice to come up with something that better captures the spirit, with bonus points if the name has a sly reference to the Hall of Fame built in...

Ok, that's fine with me, you can do whatever you want with the letter, hold onto as long as you need to. I'm just tryin to do something to help

We should think of a really clever name though, everyone start brain storming.

Re: Monk Community Project Letter

I've been lurking around these boards for a long time, but I decided to finally join after the continuing travesty of Art Monk not getting into the HoF. I'm 100% willing to help out with this in any way I can.
