PORTIS and BETTS!!!!!

Here's the thing. Everybody is high on Betts right now going into this season. Last Season Portis had his worst season as a pro due to injuries. If Portis had been healthy he still would of had a career year. He still had 7 touchdowns last year. If had played the season he would of had 1500+ yards and probably 14 TD's. Betts is a great back up that i hope don't think will get traded. It takes 2 backs in the NFL now. Next season provided they both are healthy the Skins should have one of the premier running games in the NFL. It will also help the WR's. Look for Cooley to be the biggest benificial from this. (sucks that is his contract year)Another plus is that in Saunders system another year will help. We as fans will see positive changes as soon as the preseason. The bottom line is nobody should be bashing Portis and talking about trading Betts. They both will be there next year. We all should be thankful that we have a great backfield when some teams don't even have one quality RB.

Re: PORTIS and BETTS!!!!!

It's no secret we're going to be a run-first team. Two starting caliber backs is a great predictor of success in the running game. A simple example are the Super Bowl teams this past year- Addai/Rhodes for Indy, Benson/Jones for Chicago. Not to mention teams like SD, Dallas, Jax, etc, etc. Saunder's loves Betts, Gibbs loves Portis. I'm excited to see their one-two punch. Betts is not going anywhere. Period.

I don't know if he's as in love with him as he was early on, I think Gibbs was a little ticked that Clinton threw him under the bus about the injury in pre-season last year, especially after the way Gibbs has backed Portis from day one, I think he's sending a little message to Portis with his comments about Betts splitting time.

Re: PORTIS and BETTS!!!!!

My prediction is CP will get injured again this season and Betts will eventually be the bona fide starter by 2008 with us dumping CP in the end. I hope I am wrong though. Having both gives us both an inside and outside game, just hope they have more outside running plays for CP this year. The guy just isn't a Riggins or Bus type of a back that can go inside the tackles.

Is it that he's sending a message, or is Gibbs just stating the obvious? With Betts performance last year and his nice new contract, it would be crazy for him not to get touches every game. I don't think Gibbs was saying they are splitting time 50-50. He said Portis is the unquestioned starter, and he also said Portis understands that Betts will see some significant playing time too. He also said Portis is all for it and excited about the opportunity our running game has to help the team win.

Horrible prediction. Nothing in the past would indicate Portis will get hurt. In case anyone forgot, last year was the ONLY year Betts has been healthy. I think he might have played in 14 games in another season, but i'm not sure.

Here is a real prediction. Portis will be motivated, since he knows everyone is writing him off. He will run for 1300 and 12 TD's, catch 20 passes for 200 yards, and a TD. Betts runs for 700 and 4 TD's, catches 40 passes for 300 yards and 2 TD's, misses two games due to injury.

And for the very reasons you state I don't see how anyone in their right mind would think there's any reason why the both of them will not return to continue perhaps the best RB duo we've had in a long time. The running game along with the OL was the best part of our team last year, no reason whatsoever to disrupt that.

The name Gus Frerotte suits you perfectly because you definately hit your head on something. I have already argued with you once about Portis where you said he wasnt suited for the NFC east, hes not a ground and pounder like so many other backs in the NFC east, oh wait....
The NFC east doesnt have a RB like that and rarely does, Emmitt Smith, who owned the NFC east for years was a small back, Tiki Barber who owned the NFC east most recently was a small back. Troy Hambrick was a big back and couldnt survive in the NFC east, Ron Dayne did nothing at all in the NFC east, and TJ Duckett did nothing in the little time he had on the field. Clinton Portis is perfect for us, he knows how to run behind his lineman, and we have Mike Sellers leading the way. If your gripe is with Portis, than be a man and post that, dont disguise it, I know you dont like him.

Have you ever listened to Gibbs talk about CP?? He practically has an orgasm at the mention of his name. Any one asks him about CP, Gibbs waxes ecstatic about his habits, his play and how much he loves the game, then he gives that high pitched giggle and compliments him again. Gibbs has a SERIOUS man crush on CP.

I have said it before and I'll say it again. CP is a tough mofo and, coming out of college, constantly talked about how he loved to run between the tackles.

He is a tough tough runner and anyone who says different has NOT been watching the same Skins' games I have.

Re: PORTIS and BETTS!!!!!

Portis is as tough as nails and he's also a character guy (in more ways the one, I might add)! I look forward to seeing him healthy again and picking up another 1500 yards. I think they could put Portis and Betts both in at the same time this season, too. They could split Betts out as a receiver if they wanted to.
